“Now that we've helped Fujin tend to the soil, Paimon has noticed that it's a lot prettier in Chenyu Vale.”
The floating fairy-like creature chirps as she hovers along the dirt path by her blonde companion's side.
“Speaking of prettier things. Traveler, did you notice that the sky here in Chenyu Vale is much different from the skies in the rest of Liyue?”
The golden blonde next to her stops and turns his gaze onto her, raising a brow of skepticism. His eyes then raise to the darkened sky that hangs above them and take in the sight.
What Paimon said was true. The sky truly was different from the rest of Liyue and any other region that the two had visited so far. As it was night, the sky was a deep midnight blue with swirls of violet and turquoise that seemed to glow from within the cotton-like clouds that partially obscured and circled the shining white moon. Stars speckle the suspended landscape of night haphazardly, their droplets of white add an almost otherworldly quality to the already ethereal scene. And, of course, the faded silhouette of Celestia looms ominously in the distance, creeping north ever so slowly. It truly was unlike anything that Aether had ever seen before.
“That's–… how did I never notice it.”
The golden blonde mumbles as he looks up in wonder and amazement, but also confusion.
Why was the sky in Chenyu Vale so drastically different from anywhere else? What was so different about this place? How was the sky this way in the first place? It was strange; like the sky was altered by something to be this way, and although Aether wanted to think that something like that was impossible, his expectations have been demolished and rebuilt countless times since he descended into Teyvat.
The small bob-haired fairy floated in front of his face and waved her arms about to attract his attention.
“Hey, if you're curious about the sky, why don't we head back to Yilong Wharf and ask the locals about it? Maybe if we're lucky we'll run into Cloud Retai– uhm… Xianyun again; she might know too!”
Paimon suggests before turning and floating further down the dirt road toward their new destination.
“Hm.”
Aether hums, giving a curt nod as he follows his guide back to the wharf.
“Uuugh! Paimon is so tired! Why is Chiwang Terrace so far from here anyway!? It's already daytime!”
Paimon whines as she slowly floats along with her blonde companion at a snail's pace in a slumped-over position.
“How about we head over to Jiulue Teahouse? We can sit down and eat some of the local dishes then we can start asking around.”
The outlander chuckles softly as he reaches over and pats the floating girl on the head in sympathy before grabbing her and carefully holding her under his arm. Paimon only sighs and gives her friend a nod as she's carried off in the direction of the teahouse.
On their way over to one of the nearby stalls, Aether spots a storyteller on the outside stage; maybe this storyteller has a few tales about the skies here. Though, after a short deliberation, he lets his floating companion go and buy food for the two of them while he goes and speaks to the storyteller; with a reasonable allowance, lest the girl buy out the stall's entire stock and empty his mora pouch.
Once the two part ways, the golden blonde sees the older man leaving off the stage, seemingly emptied of his arsenal of tall tales. So he waves the man, who he learns is named Jiewu going by the nearby chatter of patrons, down.
“Excuse me! I know that you just got off the stage, but I was wondering if you had any stories about the skies of Chenyu Vale?”
He asked straightforwardly; getting a comical sweat drop from the older man at his bluntness.
Jiewu mutters a bit as he pinches his chin between his thumb and forefinger; his crow's feet becoming more pronounced as he squints his eyes in thought. The older man takes a glance up at the magnificent sky with a bland expression, as if it were the most mundane thing that he'd ever seen before. It was almost as if he didn't notice anything significant at all. Strange.
“I can't say I have any stories about the sky, young man. I've no clue why you're interested in something like that, there's nothing very spectacular about the sky.”
Jiewu confusedly drones out; raising a thick brow at the blonde and taking another glance at the sky above.
“Was there anything else you needed, young man? If I'm not home soon, my wife will have a fit”
The older man asks in a still polite but slightly rushed tone, making it clear that he wanted the conversation to end quickly.
Aether only shakes his head and allows the man to take his leave. Turning around, he sees Paimon floating toward him with bagged food in hand and an annoyed expression on her face. He raises a brow at her, silently asking what was wrong.
“Paimon asked the stall owner about the sky while waiting for the food, but he only looked at Paimon with a weird face and said ‘there's nothing really special about the sky, is there?’. And the other people Paimon asked said something similar!”
The floating girl loudly complains before digging her hands into the bag, pulling out a skewer of food and angrily chomping on it; letting out muffled mumbles about giving the stall owner an ugly nickname.
Aether only sighs as he motions for his fairy-like companion to follow him.
Their next stop: Mt. Mingyuan!
As the traveler scaled the cliffs of Mt. Mingyuan, he kept hearing the sound of a paper bag rustling and the unmistakable munching of food. A metaphorical vein bulged out on his temple as he whipped his head around to look at his floating guide.
“You— Paimon, give me the bag! If you eat everything again, I swear I'll feed you to a cryo slime!”
Aether growled as he recklessly took one hand off the cliffside to swipe at the bag in Paimon's hands, the girl dodging every time.
Unfortunately, all the wild movements made him lose his foothold in the cliffside and sent him plummeting towards the ground below. In too much shock to deploy his wind glider, all the golden blonde could do was stare upwards at the screaming Paimon who too was frozen in fear.
But then… on the wind, he heard a faint whisper of droplets landing on the surface of water…
From beneath him, Aether felt a soft embrace pushing him upwards; the quiet sounds of shifting waters made him look back. What he could only describe was a small cloud of heavy mist with a ring of water swirling around it. The strange cloud lifted him, and Paimon when it reached the height she was at, up and over the cliffside, where it then came to a stop and seemingly patiently waited for him to get off.
The golden blonde shakily stumbled off of the helpful cloud and fell on his bottom on the grassy cliff top. His heart beat erratically and his whole body trembled as the adrenaline finally caught up with him. He didn't even register the tearful apologies of his floating friend as she hugged him and sobbed into his chest.
“...One did not think that mortals had become so foolish over such a short time…”
A gentle voice softly whispered from a place that Aether couldn't locate.
“...You shall consider yourself lucky that one was present to witness your fall, lest you no longer be among the living…”
The voice spoke familiarly; it reminded Aether of how Xianyun and the other adeptus spoke. Surely this voice must belong to another adeptus that he just hadn't met yet.
“...Descend the mountain and return to a safer location, the cliffs of Mt. Mingyuan are no place for young mortals like yourself…”
The voice spoke again, this time though, it seemed to be coming from the cloud that saved him from his fall. With every syllable pronounced, the cloud of mist gave off a faint but ethereal glow in a medley of colors. Colors that were reminiscent of the night sky that he had seen just yesterday.
Breaking from his adrenaline-fueled trance, Aether shakily gets to his feet and takes the still-sobbing Paimon into his arms. He spared a glance back at the cloud, tempted to stay and ask it about its possible connection to the mysterious skies that he had been wondering about, but one look at the disheveled companion in his arms and he knew his answer. He'd have to worry about that later, his dear friend needs him right now.
“Can… Can I ask you for your name?”
The golden blonde asked, almost sounding as if he was begging with how his voice trembled.
“...One's name should be of no concern to you at this time; you must go now…”
The ‘cloud’ softly answered back, as if it were trying to coax a sleepy child back into a dream.
With that answer, Aether nodded and headed down the mountain with careful and measured steps, occasionally giving quick glances down at the sleeping Paimon's tear-stained face. He sighs, perhaps he can just ask about this mysterious adeptus another time, he has much more important things to worry about now.

love bites ♡
—cannibalism, s&m dynamics, bondage, blindfold, ball gag, double penetration, toys | dom!reader/sub!aether, s!reader/m!aether, reader is not gender-specified but does penetrate, aether's genitals are referred to with both cunt and cock (it is mentioned he has two holes + a cervix, but i didn't intend for him to be afab/intersex i just wrote ig?) —this is short. it's been in my drafts because i wanted to add more but i think this is fine tbh.
The ground below Aether is entirely soaked with his fluids. Both of his holes are filled, being controlled by the remote in your hand. It’s currently at a steady rhythm, but that doesn’t stop him from whining.
Aether’s head tilts back, a muffled groan erupting from his throat as another hit from your whip laid against his bare skin.
His steps staggered on the floor, only able to stand up with the tip of his toes as his wrists were tied too high to the ceiling, his short stature being barely even able to touch the ground with his feet.
It’s only been a couple of minutes or so, maybe an hour? He couldn’t tell accurately with the gag and blindfold numbing most of his senses so that he’d only focus on the pain you were giving to his rear.
The room was quiet except for the occasional screams and hitting, or the liquid that squirts onto the floor as Aether moans loudly onto the ball gag.
It was never easy whenever your jealousy took over you…but it was definitely fun. Especially for the immortal star whose skin was starting to bruise.
“They don’t deserve you.” Your voice rings in his ears.
“You don’t need to think of them, just focus on me.”
You take off the gag, dropping it mindlessly as it clatters on the ground. Next followed the blindfold, and though his eyes were stained, that didn’t take away from their shine.
With ease, you pull out the vibrator in his front. His wetness leaves a trail as you easily pull it out with how wet his insides are.
Aether flinches at the way he’s suddenly left feeling empty.
Although that doesn’t last long as that’s when he feels you stretching his hole, filling him tightly until he’s squirming onto nothing, unable to hold himself or even crawl away.
“If I can’t keep you in here, I suppose I’ll just leave enough marks so everyone knows who you belong to.”
Aether whines at the prospect. He knows it’s a useless threat, especially with how he heals much faster than humans. Stil, he did appreciate the—Oh.
A loud scream leaves the outlander’s throat dry.
“Hnnghh—Aahh…Haah!”
His entire body shakes from the pain, his movements causing you to go deeper into him. A cry leaving him from feeling everything all at once.
He did not expect you to do that.
“S-So mean…” He breathes out, watching the blood from his shoulder drip down his body. Yet there’s a matching red blush on his face, as if what you did was something all normal couples do.
“You taste good.” You compliment, the torn flesh going down smoothly as you swallow.
Aether’s face leans towards you as if asking for you to share what his own body tastes like. Your lips close together, his tongue grasping the remains from you biting a part of his collar. He’s never tasted himself before, though that thought was always something he was curious about, the only problem was that he was too much of a coward to do it.
You two continue kissing, you pressing deep into his cervix, the pain coursing through him as he matches your rhythm.
“You’re so cheesy…” He states after he finally pulls back.
“What else am I supposed to do if you keep healing through all the marks I make? Hopefully, this one lasts more than a week.”
“It will…Maybe, you can just bite me again to be sure…” He suggests.
“This is supposed to be your punishment, you know?” You remind him, though it’s difficult to stay mad with the kind of faces that he pulls against you.
“It’s not my fault you get jealous easily.” He refutes.
“I don’t.”
“Keep telling yourself that,” Aether says, smiling as he snickers a laugh which quickly gets cut off when you continue thrusting into him again.
“You speak when I tell you to.”
He doesn’t get to argue this time, his mind too focused on the way he’s getting penetrated so deeply. He’s forced to take each pounding, each inch that rubs against his walls sending him closer to another orgasm. His choked-up sounds continue to leak out with the thought of you being so possessive of him.
Your hands reach his cunt, his swollen cock begging to be touched. And so you fulfill that wish, earning another whimper when you slap his cock.
He’s so out of it. He loves how his body feels so much of a wreck, his sweat mixing with blood, and eventually with his cum.
He pants, his hands still tied up. His entire body trembles, the feeling of you pulling out is so agonizing itself. He wants to keep you in, he needs it. He has to take advantage of you as he doesn’t know how long until he can experience this high again.
So with a shaky voice, he asks.
“More?”

Furina:*emerges* Outlander, you stand before the court itself, Chief Justice, and the very ruler of this nation today. Do you have any final interesting words before your sentence is decided? (Time for the predictable pleas for help…)
Aether:*in chains*….I should’ve known the Hydro Archon’s beauty would be the only thing clearer than the crystal-like shine of this nation’s waters.
Furina:….
Aether:….
Yanfei:*clutching briefcase* Your grace, I am so sorry for my clients idiotic-
Furina:Parole.
Yanfei:What?
Neuvillette:What!?
Furina:You heard me. Just this once slap him on the wrist and give him parole. *red* No further discussions. *rips execution papers*
Aether and Yanfei:Thank you, your grace.
Neuvillette:(How dare these two think themselves above the court and it’s values!)
Aether and Yanfei:*trembling* (OH MY GOD, HOW DID THAT WORK!?)

💠 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐄 💠

『 Welcome us with your light 』
When existence takes form, light bursts forth.
Perception is possible with the existence of light, and life is breathed into existence with either belief or desire. Such radiance is accompanied by sublime darkness, the shadow which always follows. The universe is a blanket of void filled with twinkling light that each holds potential to blossom into life.
In the eyes of a child, the possibilities are endless.
SOLSTICE, the younger sister of Aether and Lumine, looks at the world with great curiosity. No matter where the twins take her, she would look around with eyes widely open of wonder. She never misses a chance to observe all the vibrant colors and forms of civilization. Before Solstice had been born, the twins were always out exploring the universe by themselves. With an infinite number of worlds to discover, the two have a vast variety of homes to choose as options to settle down.
This particular one is gorgeous in its simplicity.
The landscape is quite linear: green everywhere surrounded by oceanic blues, and very abundantly blessed by nature's touch. Its real beauty shines from the ethereal aura of the backdrops, emanating a sense of unity. From where they landed, they saw almost everything there is to be offered by this world. The twins smirked at each other, giddy to be able to explore every spot. Multiple sets of cliffs could be spotted along the coastlines, and a few tiny islands decorated the borders with beaches of white sand. On the horizon, they can detect a trace of civilization—but it looked more like ancient ruins now. At the heart of it all, one giant oak tree stood tall like a silent guardian.
Flower fields seem to never run out. Each plain has at least five different kinds of blossoms dancing by their feet, and every meadow is rich with splendor. Solstice loved them, squealing happily at the new colors and scents as her siblings carried her throughout their strolls. She definitely took a liking to grapes when her siblings found vines of them in a random nook of the continent. She was just as quick to get sick of it though, such is the ever frivolously fickle whim of a toddler. The continent seems to match that mood, carefree and wild yet a natural peace guiding it to order. Everything comes alive with every breeze as if this world breathes and speaks through them.
It was quite mysterious yet enthralling, as if they were being welcomed.
『 Grace the morning sky 』
AETHER looks back at his two sisters.
Solstice is sitting on Lumine's lap under the giant oak tree, gazing at the lush green hills. The tree itself reaches above the clouds like a wooden obelisk, casting a massive shadow on the land. It has been a while since the last world-hop, and he knows that they should plan a departure soon. Sure, this one has forests that are full of life and cliffs were no danger to an Outlander. He even saw a functioning windmill and manor estate in the remains of an ancient city. Life is undoubtedly possible for them, yet...something was missing.
Something is always missing.
After a while, he catches the gaze of Solstice who is reaching out to him by spreading her arms open nigh expectantly. He walks over to them and crouches down to her eye level, making her grin cheekily like a spoiled cat that got what it wanted. Her eyes beam at him while she holds her rattle out towards his twin sister, whom chuckles fondly.
"Perhaps, the next world would have some entertaining creatures for her." Aether mused.
As nighttime hit, pyreflies came out of hiding and illuminated the forest where they rested. Some have dared to go near the Outlanders, especially the ever charming Solstice. She stares at the floating lights, giggling whenever they nip at her nose. The oak tree granted them shade from the moonlight if ever they wish to sleep. Flowerbeds accompanied the grass on uneven terrain, soothing the trio into a free session of aromatherapy. The shades of midnight devoured the entire land, giving it a somber view that lulls its witnesses to slumber. A million stars twinkled mischievously from the sea of black that is the nightsky. Dandelions glided along the gentle currents of the evening breeze, swaying like a sweet windblume dream.
Truly, it is a quaint and lovely world.
『 Comfort Luna— 』
LUMINE smiles down at Solstice.
At this age, the young Outlander would not be able to understand words yet. Her twin brother points out his index finger towards their sister's nose, poking it with a gentle boop. For a moment, the toddler is shocked; but then, as Aether smiles, she laughs and reaches for her nose with her free hand.
Aether sits down next to his sisters, "What are you wishing for, sis?"
Lumine brushes away a straying lock of hair from Solstice's face and hums contently, "Anything."
The rattle in Solstice's hand makes a unique sound that was both magical and beguiling. It resembled the soft tinkling of windchimes, yet presents an imagery of sparkling stars due to its sustaining echo with every shake. The sound was something that gave comfort to the youngest Outlander, especially when it is accompanied by the changing of its color palettes to suit her moods. Its shape was also quite fascinating, as its translucent sphere held a tiny glowing four-pointed star. The surface seems to be made of iridescent crystal, gleaming like glass amidst a spectrum of dawn.
Aether takes Solstice when Lumine hands him their dearest little traveler. Her eyes glimmer as she looks up at her older brother. He leans down to give her a kiss on the forehead, soothing her. She once again shakes her rattle as her version of thanks, releasing sounds which further delighted the little girl.
When Solstice was born, the twins dutifully watched over her. Once she had enough energy to sustain herself, the siblings took it upon themselves to find a new home—a world suited for their baby sibling, as well as their personal desires. That is their current mission and why they could not stay on this world, no matter what beauty the place holds.
Therefore, at dawn, their time was up.
Aether and Lumine gave the world one last glance, melancholic to finally leave it. Solstice is held by her brother, snoozing on his shoulder. They chose a spot that gave them the smallest view of the old windmill, one of two things that remained in tact amongst the infrastructures of the desolated town. Amongst the sharp cliffs which cross over each other, families of tiny creatures seem to peek out from wherever they kept themselves hidden. As dawn arrived, the fog lifts like a curtain from the trenches and isolated corners. The waters began to clear, sparkling like liquid diamonds against the rays of a rising sun.
The Outlanders turned, wings spread as they jumped into the portal for their next quest.
The morning breeze bade them farewell.
『 —as she wanes from Terra's might 』
Even with millennia of experience, the twins have yet to find the "answers" to the universe.
All Outlanders were born in Cosmogenesis, yet none ever stayed. It was the same for Aether and Lumine, entitled by their peers as The Light Bearers through the names they were given. Both came to existence and then ventured out once they have grown old enough, all to find the world where they can settle down together. Alas, neither expected it to be as difficult as it had been. Some veteran Outlanders describe it as never knowing until you find that place, home. There is no logic behind finding one. It is a feeling that they can only hope to experience once in a lifetime. Even some Outlanders as old as time have yet to find theirs.
Aether and Lumine had visited many stars with Solstice, even before their younger sister had fully matured. One of the first worlds had been populated with dragons, a diversity of ecosystems as habitat to specific breeds. There were no other creatures aside from smaller animals that likely function as prey, deeming the world a perilous shelter for the siblings even if only temporarily. The twins would have hopped to another world the moment they arrived; yet Solstice, with her ever curious nature, made them stay.
Perhaps, because dragons were the first lifeforms she saw outside of Cosmogenesis, she quickly took a liking to them.
『 Veiled in amber haze 』
Solstice giggles, reaching her hand out as far as she could dare towards the dragon.
Aether has her body securely wrapped in a blanket while she was hugged protectively to his chest, warm and safe. Upon first seeing a giant beast, most people would react with caution. The wise move is to slowly and carefully step back in order to not alarm or provoke it. However, his baby sister had the opposite reaction. Her ecstatic smile seems to intrigue the beast as well since it laid down. The new position made it appear small and vulnerable, an invitation for the Outlanders to come closer.
Aether and Lumine share a bemused look.
Solstice, in the bundle of blankets, continues to reach her hand out to the dragon. She kept her Primo Stella rattle close to her chest with the other hand. The dragon itself is smaller than others but longer, more like a reptilian drake if not for its obvious wings. It has an extra pair of legs to keep its elongated body supported. Its wings were brightly colored, from a golden rose tinting towards a gradient black like the void. The twins were not surprised that the young Outlander was so intrigued by the beast.
First, Lumine had walked closer to test the patience of the draconic creature. They needed to confirm how close it would let them get. It would not have been the first time that either of the twins saw a creature of this ilk. Sometimes, the dragons would be big and others much smaller; but all can still be dangerous in their own ways. Many differences in color palettes made them interesting as well, yet always recognizable as draconic. There are breeds which had been quick to rage, hence their worries.
The young woman stopped within arm's length and held her hand out, letting the wild yet wise creature approach on its own pace. After an intense glare, it acquiesced by nudging its snout towards her palm.
After Lumine had been able to pet it, Aether took the chance to walk closer. He still shielded Solstice's frame with his free arm, just in case. If something happened, both would be quicker than the dragon could attack. He knew this well, yet his protective instinct held his sister closer to his form. The young man lays his hand on the other side of the dragon's head once he was sure he had permission.
"You want to touch the dragon as well?" He asks Solstice gently.
Aether adjusts her position in a way where the little girl would be facing the dragon. Both her hands reach out to the dragon, even the one holding the rattle. Her hand makes contact with the scales and, as it does, she squeals with excited laughter.
For a moment, the twins heard the dragon purr.
『 Fueled by violent rage 』
During their time on this world, the dragon had kept them company like a silent guardian.
Besides dragons, the world lacked forms of human civilization no matter how far they sought. Not even anything that bear a semblance of ancient ruins, or even hieroglyphs of history could be found on any landmass. The caves in the mountains were enough for the dragons to call home. Furthermore, they come in all sorts of types: vishaps, wyverns, drakes, wyrms, lindwyrms, amphipteres, basilisks, hydra, bahamuts, leviathans, and of course the typical dragons. Each functioned as an independent unit or clan, while there are those preferring to go solo and hoard their treasures. Aether and Lumine had talked about staying since Solstice loved this world so much, but then decided otherwise.
Thus, the twins set out to other worlds. They were determined to keep trying to discover that feeling—the sensation which their fellow Outlanders often told them in stories. Solstice had been too young to understand the reasoning her siblings gave, but she nevertheless made no trouble as they left. While the twins searched for another star, she looked back at the small gathering of dragons. They watched the trio intently, as if bidding them a safe journey and a bittersweet goodbye. At the very front is the dragon which greeted them first upon their arrival.
Big round eyes shimmered with glee as they peek over Lumine's shoulder. A chubby fist waved and the rattle, which it held, chimed with a melodic echo.
The Twin Outlanders spread their wings as they left the world of dragons behind...
...and it faded with the mightiest of roars.
『 Dancing, discordant— 』
In Cosmogenesis, a star named Luciel dies.
Cosmogenesis is a vast space located at the center of infinity, the origin of the universe yet not quite the one that birthed it. The dimension has a plethora of stars and galaxies revolving around a group of levitating platforms, each designed as archaic suns and moons. They serve as welcoming perches for Outlanders to rest or stargaze. However, the widest one at the center of all serves as the universal chamber for newborn Outlanders. It can transform to properly accommodate those too young to leave and survive independently, whether as a cradle in a nursery or as an entire house floating through the cosmos. Directly across is a gaping maw that serves as a gateway wherein Outlanders can enter or leave the cosmic space. Sometimes, it even becomes an all-seeing mirror to view a specific galaxy or black hole from far away.
Now, at the peak of Cosmogenesis, the birth of Luciel's twins is about to occur.
From all across the universe, Outlanders gather to witness the birth of Aether and Lumine—the pair of siblings incubated by Luciel and now to be born from its timely death. It is extremely rare for twins to be conceived by the stars of Cosmogenesis, yet never really dangerous. Although, as two souls that shared one star, they will live with a connection that binds them for life.
It is a special bond that cannot be severed.
The Outlanders watch as the star collapses on itself, seeming to gather every wisp of its light. In seconds, the core of this star shrinks and takes the shape of newborns about to breathe their first. A supernova explodes with a flurry of dazzling light and stardust, covering the expanse of Cosmogenesis. Witnesses were blinded by the sheer brightness of nothing but white, a familiar ringing noise lingering in their ears.
Alas, the experience is always worth it.
After all, the birth of an Outlander happens only once every million years in Cosmogenesis.
Then, as color returned to their sights, they admired what seems to be the most beautiful supernova they have ever witnessed. The ivory haze fades out, making way to the colored nebula that remained. Clouds of various shades and hues float as stages to the multitude of dancing stardust, like galactic fairies doing an imperial ballet. From its core, Aether and Lumine slowly descend into the cradle of silk which rose and formed from the central platform.
With the birth of the twins, the star named Luciel was gone and only left a stellar nebula in its place.
The elderly Outlanders named it: Luciella.
In Cosmogenesis, nebulae are considered nurseries for future stars. Then, should a star die again after a million years or so, it shall give birth to another Outlander or two. There are certain conditions where a nebula would disperse into the maw and become a new galaxy instead, which will expand the universe further outward. It shall go beyond the wide scope of Cosmogenesis, and then possibly birth all sorts of species. This cycle of life and death has been on loop since the beginning of time; and it can only end with the death of the universe itself.
The Outlanders slowly leave their perches to check on the twins. One by one, they approached to impart their blessings in the form of welcoming smiles and well-wishes in different languages. The newborns responded with soft coos and huffing whimpers, still asleep. Like most newborn Outlanders, Aether and Lumine will likely not open their eyes until their first birthday. That is when they would have absorbed enough energy from the cosmos to enable their five senses to observe their surroundings.
『 —spinning in retrograde 』
Once an Outlander is born, the energy that flows within Cosmogenesis serves as their overall sustenance. A species known only in Cosmogenesis called the stardust pixies are also present to educate them, based on accumulated knowledge from all corners of the universe. Because of this, most Outlanders live without a parental figure. There are some that choose to personally mentor the younglings, but most just leave after witnessing the birth and let nature take its course.
Aether and Lumine remained in Cosmogenesis for a little over a decade. They spent that time gathering enough energy and training their powers with help from the pixies. A veteran Outlander will sometimes come to pay them a visit and give some helpful tips, preparing them for their own future travels. Those moments made the dimension less lonely, but the twins were eager to just leave it as well. It was too barren and too dull, even with the mesmerizing view of the cosmos. Even the flickering company of the pixies does little to soothe them.
Maybe this is the reason why no Outlander ever chose to stay here for long...
When they had enough power to fend off any dangers, the twins attempted their first world-hop.
It was an exhilaration like no other.
During the next few centuries, the twins jumped from world to world. They discovered new civilized species, new fauna, new flora, and cultures that are so inherently unique from each other. On the rarest instances, they would even cross paths with fellow Outlanders. Once, they were fortunate enough to meet those who found their true home; and these Elders managed to tell them in even greater detail when a world feels like their true home. Such tales inspired Aether and Lumine to journey even further, making them witness the rise and fall of countless stars in multiple galaxies. There were times they would stay longer in a particular world they both like, but it was never a permanent place to stay. It was not the home which the Elders told, and certainly not what their restless natures seek as Outlanders.
Although, there are times that the twins did find this quest tediously impossible.
"Home is when we're together." Aether would tell his twin sister with an encouraging grin.
Lumine would hold his hand in response, "We will always have enough time."
『 Born from the sea and the waves 』
Every Outlander is linked to Cosmogenesis.
Since birth, they all possess a homing beacon within their core that will lead them back to it. If there is an enemy they cannot defeat, the realm will always leave an open gateway for them to escape. If there is any adversity they can hardly surpass, the realm is a place for them to heal. It was odd how it can even operate as some sort of telepathic or empathic link amongst their kind. For this reason, news of any particular Outlander can be received from all parts and corners of the universe. On the other hand, Cosmogenesis can send visions that are treated as summons for special events that are too significant to miss. Examples are the formation of a galaxy after a nebula dispersed, or the discovery of another unnamed star. After all, one thing that unites all Outlanders other than finding their respective true home is the obligation to archive the truths of the universe.
The most common for these summons, of course, is the birth of a new Outlander.
When such an update reached Aether and Lumine, their first thought was that it made no sense whatsoever. It took a million years for an unnamed star to be born, and a hundred million more for it to die while birthing an Outlander—or two, in the rare case of twins like them. The timing was much too early. They were still so young compared to the rest of their kind, barely a few millenniums old. Both of them were still trying to find their own place in the cosmos.
Then, so unexpectedly, another was born.
Therefore, the Outlanders gathered once again.
It was certainly different from most births witnessed in Cosmogenesis. Admittedly, it was underwhelming compared to the surreal display that the recent birth of the twins had demonstrated. Nevertheless, there was a certain beauty to seeing a nebula swirl and converge. It was like a calm vortex before the eruption of a storm. Nobody can ever truly know if it will reach and hit them, or whether there would really be a storm to anticipate.
They all watched, patient and reassured.
"You know," an Elder addressed the twins, "since this child will be born from the nebula of your star, they are considered your sibling by Outlander standards."
Aether blinked confusedly, "Our sibling...?"
The Elder nodded, "You were both born from the star of Luciel, and this child will be born from the Luciella nebula. By that context, you share the same flesh and blood."
"Has there been an incident like this?" Lumine asked.
"Only a few," the Elder replied solemnly, "mostly because this case is as rare—if not rarer—as twins being born from the same star. Fitting, that the three of you will be tied together by destiny."
Those words filled the twins with a joyous sort of excitement, an anxious type of expectance.
『 From a cosmic array 』
Much like Luciel's supernova, there was nothing quite like the convergence of Luciella. There was no explosion, no blinding lights, and no obnoxious noise ringing in their ears—just the remaining dust and gas from Luciel which became Luciella. However, a sort of fascination brewed as these clouds of gas and stardust came together. They gathered at the eye of the storm, where light and heat was slowly building like flame in a hearth. Perhaps a forge is a more accurate comparison, wherein a simple ore can take a more concrete form. Nonetheless, the Outlanders all stood aside to watch as the colors of Luciella turns itself into a ball of light.
Then, a shockwave announced the birth of this unexpected little Outlander.
It was the birth of the twins' baby sibling.
A baby sibling.
Aether and Lumine mused in awed tandem. They could never ask for more. Amongst their fellow wanderers, they watched as the tiny infant made a slow descent. Remains of Luciella floated around them like a protective cloak, all fluffy clouds and sparkling dust.
The twins moved before any of their peers, standing upon the central platform before a cradle could even form. Their baby sibling kept floating down while wrapped in a bundle of silk manifested by the stardust pixies. They approached quietly, each planting themselves at one side of the fragile newborn. With a brief glance, the pair came to an immediate understanding.
Lumine was the first to hold the baby close, a girl as they discovered. She cooed as the little one fussed at the sensation of being embraced. Comforted by the humming and rocking of an older sister, she settled down with faint sniffles.
Meanwhile, Aether seems to know by instinct on what to do next as he stared up at the remnants of Luciella. He did spare a look at the Elders, whom nodded back to encourage his plan. There was no way that another star—let alone an entire galaxy—could be born from it anymore, yet a powerful resonance lingered as a thrumming of magic. The young man summons a relic in the shape of a crystal, and then seals it all away. He feels his twin sister assist him by lending her own power by holding his shoulder with her free hand. The relic transformed into a baby rattle, housing a small glowing star in its sphere and producing a soothing sound.
Primo Stella, whispered Cosmogenesis.
Its energy will stabilize their little one until she can fully harness its power with her own.
Aether gently tucks the rattle with his little sister, delicately petting her head. He presses a chaste kiss on her hand, so small and soft compared to his. A warm smile accompanied his tearful eyes. His chest swelled with adoration as he felt the tiny fingers squeeze his own single digit.
Lumine did the same as her brother, taking their little sister's other one. Like her twin, she tenderly kisses the dainty fingers so faintly squeezing onto hers. Her breath hitched due to the surge of affection that consumed her.
Solstice would be her name, they decided.
Their dear little sister.
Her birth was yet another miracle, and it would be their miracle to keep. Nothing in the world would stop them from loving their little traveler. Nothing in the universe could stop them from cherishing and protecting such a treasure.
On Solstice's first birthday, she opened her eyes for the first time like any other Outlander. She gathered enough energy to sustain herself, especially with the help of Primo Stella. Her eyes mirrored a thousand stars as she looked up at the twins, whom gazed back in breathless admiration. Light reflected as wisps of silver that gleamed like clair de lune, and colors blended as a symphony of worlds within a thriving galaxy. They twinkled charmingly, a play of enchantment that leads bystanders into a trance.
She was beautiful, and so very precious.
Aether and Lumine beamed proudly at their little sister as she laughed, rattle shaking in her hand.
Solstice understood. This is her family.
『 Of the colors in space 』
It was dark.
It was cold yet warmth lingers.
It felt like nothing at all, but there was enough of something for it to be called hollow.
Solstice forcefully extends her hand forward, trying to grasp anything. It was an effort that seems to take a lot from her, as if her soul was literally being pulled out of her body. When she leans forward, her hand meets a sea of darkness—an endless void of nothingness. She reels back and tries again, pushing harder and further through what seems like a veil of nonexistence yet an opaque blanket of obscurity.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
The only thing accompanying her in this abyss is that familiar jingle, the faintest of chimes. A weirdly unique yet familiar sound...and no matter how hard she thinks, she has no idea where it originated. Her ears were so attuned to it, as if a habitual stirring from her soul which she always recognizes.
Solstice steps in the direction she thinks is forward yet had no way of confirming. How long has she been here? When she yells out for her older siblings, she is met by a deafening silence. For a moment, she doubts herself and halts in her tracks.
Perhaps, this is just a dream.
Aether and Lumine would never leave her alone, so it must be a dream. Yes, that must be it.
Henceforth, there is nothing to fear.
Again, Solstice tries to reach forward—failing, and then falling yet never meeting a surface. In a bout of frustration, she closes her eyes. She always took Primo Stella with her, the rattle Aether and Lumine gifted her at birth. If it was gone here as well, surely this was not real...right?
Solstice shuts her eyes tightly and tries to calm herself. Breath in. Breath out. She tries to think about all the worlds she had previously visited, and then imagines the worlds she has yet to see. It had been some time since the twins took her to another world, so they should be hopping to a different one soon.
Then, she will wake up.
Right...?
When the magical sound starts to fade away, the void started to feel like the closest corporeal experience of being able to breathe underwater. Solstice falls into a loveless embrace of darkness. An invisible weight makes her sink into the depths and she lets it, forevermore trapped in limbo. There was no cause for alarm, as she knows that her twin siblings would wake her up soon. They will take her to another world as they always did, together.
This is just a bad dream. A nightmare.
『 Nothingness erased 』
Lumine walks over to Aether.
"Isn't it about time you wake her up?" She asked.
The young lady puts the fruits she gathered in a basket next to her brother. He glances up from his makeshift workplace, humming. He then looks over to Solstice's figure, peacefully sleeping on one of the portable beds. Her rattle is tightly grasped and pushed against her chest. Sometimes, she would move and the toy would make a soft sound.
Aether shrugs, "I'll wake her up once breakfast is ready. She must be adjusting to this new world."
The sun was already up, as they were too after being trained as early risers. Both were ready for a new journey, yet neither of them woke up the little Outlander. Travelling across the mountains costs a lot of energy, especially from young Solstice who is yet to fully develop.
The three currently resided in a house the village had provided for them. The shelter gave them a chance to rest longer, and to bond with their little sister in-between commissions that earned them some coin for expenses. Solstice enjoyed spending her time with the villagers too. She was now able to properly communicate and spent her days chattering with them, kids and adults alike. Likewise, she listened to topics about their history and the tales they would spin playfully like straw on wheels.
It was no ordinary village either. The people all have tails and other animal attributes. As Aether and Lumine talked with the villagers, they got to know more about their transforming abilities. Most chose to show their animal attributes, even in humanoid form, and only a handful walked around without them. If the person is around a person they trust, then they are able to wholly morph into an animal as well—their true form, as they call it. That goes without saying, Solstice was curious and enjoyed the presence of these nature dwellers. She held a very particular fondness for the foxes and crows.
The sights also served as a pleasant playground, presenting a view of eternal spring. The blossoming trees never seem to run out of petals that rain down and flutter with the morning breeze. It was not odd to find a coat of pink somewhere as a result. Some would make piles of them and jump on it, laughing with resounding echoes.
The other day, Solstice had spent the entire noon running with the neighborhood's children. They had been showing off their animal forms, running faster than Solstice who would do her best to keep up; and when she got tired, the children would run back and sit down with her. She is now 3-years-old, and is able to do most things without any hands-on guidance from the twins. Outlanders adjusted fairly easily and she was no exception, thankfully. Solstice might be a petite young miss, but she was already quite adept at understanding adult conversations.
Aether puts the fruits he had cut in a bowl and then wakes Solstice up. He pokes her cheek gently, trying to coax her out of dreamland.
"Sol," he murmurs, "breakfast is ready."
She groans, nose scrunching in displeasure, but she still blinks her eyes open as requested. They squint at the ray of sunshine peeking through the windows, blinding her. As she moves to sit up, the rattle jingles again and her hand clutches it by habit. It reminds her of the stars she sees every night. No matter which world they greet, the stars always seem to be constant. They make it easier to adapt.
Solstice stretches her arms and yawns.
"Good morning." She says groggily.
"Put some other clothes on before you eat." Lumine says as she walks past. She ruffles her little sister's bedhead, making it even messier.
From across the room, Aether adds: "We're going to the other island today so try to hurry."
Solstice looks up, shoulders sagging as her brows furrowed together.
"Today...?" She parroted.
Her voice is quiet, hesitant and disappointed.
Aether crosses his arms over his chest, honey gold eyes stern yet soft. He knows that the villagers have grown on Solstice and vice versa, but it could not be helped. They cannot afford any more delays. Like the previous worlds, this one is not their true home and so leaving was a matter of time. They already stayed longer than usual for Solstice's sake, to let her play with kids around her own age.
"We want to explore this world a bit more before heading to the next. We talked about this." He ever so patiently explains again.
Every time Solstice had to leave people behind, she got sad. Both Aether and Lumine could understand the feeling, since they were the same when they hopped between worlds the first few times. It is what made an Outlander's quest difficult, especially on their younger days. Before Solstice was born, the twins settled down on the older stars until they died as if in sympathy. It was different now though, now that they have grown. In some way, they were more indifferent to the thought of leaving. They stayed detached from every world once they realize it lacks the aura of "home" which they sought.
Someday, their little sister will understand too.
Or, if they were fortunate, they could find their true home before that youthful wonder could fade from her eyes. Her older siblings certainly hoped for it.
After a while, Solstice smiles again.
"Maybe we can come back someday..."
The hopeful tone made it seem like a question, a bit more rhetoric and expected no answer.
Aether nods his head anyway, smiling back.
The pink petals and scarlet leaves from the trees outside blow through the open windows. The curtains fluttered, and the windchimes tinkled like a fairy's giggle.
"Maybe someday..."
The next world they visited was composed of a kingdom in endless winter. The terrain was basically just various states of frozen tundra, with wildlife along the botanic coastlines and amongst the cliffside forestry. Average weather was filled with long-lasting blizzards that hindered the three from adventuring outside for longer periods. If it was not for the village they had found, the twins would have moved on to the next world as soon as possible regardless of their depleting stamina. While the situation remained unpleasant, Solstice needed to rest and she always took priority above all else for the older duo. Thankfully, the people in the village were kind and offered to shelter the three for as long as needed. The twins accepted with humble gratitude in their hearts.
A jolly huntsman offered one of his unoccupied cabins so he was put in charge over their care. He wasted no time escorting them home, especially after seeing Aether holding a smaller body to his chest rather protectively.
"These will suit you three well." Their host said with a welcoming smile, holding out a pile of fabric.
Lumine took the proffered items, seeing that they were thermal clothing and hooded fur coats. There are also three pairs of warmed wool socks and indoor leather boots. A glance towards their front door revealed a few crates of food and coal.
She bowed deeply, "Thank you so much."
As soon as they were left alone, she took the clothes to her siblings. She let Aether get dressed first as she took over the job of changing Solstice. Their poor little sister was already too drowsy to move by herself due to the freezing temperature. Once she was all cozily tucked into the sheets of blanket and comforters, Lumine took her turn to switch to her own set of warmer clothes. Her twin brother exited the bathroom just as she entered, and cuddled their youngest to share some body heat.
For the rest of the visit, Solstice had been a lot less talkative yet retained her jubilance. Her tiny body does not have much resistance to extreme climates like this one. They had not been in the cold long enough to cause damage, yet she still needed to recover her energy. As she slept, she kept her rattle close to her chest to absorb more of its mana. Because Solstice needed to recover from the harsh circumstances, Aether and Lumine decided to delay the next world travel. The duo let her sleep as long as needed, and waited until their sister was ready to leave.
"I'll be back soon." Aether yelled with a salute.
Lumine waves him goodbye from a distance, silently wishing him a safe trip. Solstice timidly poked her head out from behind her older sister's legs, as she waved and grinned at their departing brother.
Aether had offered to help their host hunt down food and get some more supplies. He was now heading into Pinewood Forest with a borrowed hunting gear, and a huge husky acting as his guide. Because of Solstice's delicate state, Lumine remained in the village to look after her. She would be there for her if she needed something while their brother explored.
When the twins had set out to find a home, they knew that travelling dimensions might have a stronger and direr impact on the newborn Outlander. They had taken her out of Cosmogenesis earlier than most Outlanders would leave. With the combined powers of Aether and Lumine, they found a solution through Primo Stella. They had made that relic, her rattle, to seal the remains of Luciella. This way, she would have a reserve of cosmic energy to sustain herself while travelling from world to world. Then, on her 16th year, the power contained in the relic will permanently merge with her when she is finally ready. While sealing it was convenient, the two constantly worried about their sister's curious nature breaking it by accident and releasing the dormant power prematurely.
Lumine watches Aether disappear into the forest with an eager pep in his step. She turns around and heads back into the house where they stayed, firmly holding Solstice's hand. The twins were used to doing commissions in other worlds as well so both were willing to help the villagers, especially ones so kind and generous. However, now with Solstice in their lives, they could not freely do these missions together anymore. It was fine with them. She has full faith in her twin brother's return, and he felt the same way whenever the jobs are reversed. Both would gladly protect the little traveler as long as needed.
As soon as they sat by the fireplace, the younger female yawned while rubbing her eyes.
Lumine smiled fondly, sweeping her sister's fringe behind her flushed ears.
"Do you want a naptime story?" She asks.
Solstice beamed as she snuggled up to her older sister's side. Her head rested on Lumine's lap, mumbling her soft thanks when she felt a thick fleece blanket cover her. A doting voice lulled her to sleep as it regaled her with tales about an ice queen and her eleven knights. Before she could succumb, a caring hand combs through the strands of her hair and massages her scalp.
Once again, Solstice was in deep slumber.
『 Come dance with her in the stars 』
It was the same darkness again.
Alas, something was different—not with the void, but with her own thineself. She could feel the thrumming in her veins and the soulfulness of her breaths.
Solstice sensed power within her.
The young Outlander was no stranger to power or otherworldly magic. She was a being born from the center of infinity, a fragment of cosmogony. Even if she has yet to learn how to channel it, she is more than aware that it has always existed within her. However, this time, it was practically tangible. She can envision that power and hold it as easy as lifting her Primo Stella rattle. It was the first thing that she knows she can legitimately grasp in this endless void, and so gripped tightly as if it was her lifeline.
Her ears perked up at the sound of familiar chimes, echoing in the depths. There was no source as the reverberation seems to surround her. It kept tinkling even before the preceding echo could fade, like the persistent ticking of an antique clock. The hypnotic rhythm allured her to its pendulum chant. Her body takes a fetal position, directing her hands to her chest. A ball of light takes form in her cupped palms, peeking from the gaps of her fingers. Her eyes remained shut as she begins to lose awareness the more she embraced the divinity which hummed in her veins.
One last chime resounded in the abyss before it stopped for good.
The little traveler gradually straightened her posture; yet now, it has become a mystery if she has fallen half-asleep. Her bare feet finally make contact with a surface, but it rippled more like water. It did not matter, since she stayed as upright and steady as if it was a cemented pathway. Her cupped hands pushed forward, and it unraveled like a spring flower in full bloom to present a radiant beacon.
Thus, Solstice decreed unto the darkness:
"Let there be light."
...and light was.
It scattered as stars from the beacon which shone vibrantly from her hands. Some gathered to become the moon and another cluster created the sun, born simultaneously amidst a sea of twilight. As all light did, it took more shapes and then life was breathed into each one by her spiritual will. When the last wisp flew off, her limbs began to move in a choreography that matches a melody only she can hear.
The Outlander danced with a serene smile, yet her eyes stayed close as if in slumber. Her hands waved and swayed, arms swinging gracefully as the waves that followed her bidding. Each step made the water ripple until it lifted her up, making the petals of a flower cradling its fairy queen. Her legs kicked up as she spun with mildly flawed yet nevertheless charming pirouettes. The stars danced with her, and pixie dust gathered like a mystic robe. Some stars gained a spectrum of colors, appearing to mimic glass prisms reflecting rays of light. They flew as crystal cores that grew a pair of large wings each, fluttering around their creator delightedly.
Beauty and grace, Solstice is the light.
『 Watch her transit afar 』
Solstice stares with unbridled awe, eyes wide open and mouth shamelessly agape.
Currently, she and her siblings are riding by gondola as they toured this new world. It is indeed a fortress that earned its title as a city of water. The state is structured by large buildings seemingly built straight from the ocean floor. A single yet solidly wide and long bridge was the only access by land to the main entrance of the city from the rest of the world. Small waterfalls circled it along the bottom, streaming from the rest of civilization. Every architectural work is a breathtaking masterpiece with clear intentions of representing the people's love for renaissance art; yet the subtle intonations betrayed their ambitious pursuits for technological advancement.
Aether curiously wondered outloud if he could take samples of a few gadgets, like the thing they call mobile phones. He thought it could be useful amidst their travels. Lumine was intrigued by the idea; but she also brought up a particular downside: this technology might stop working well when they jump to another world. They are not inclined to waste resources over something that will likely fail them before it could serve its worth.
It was, nonetheless, an interesting possibility.
Outside of the city, the entire civilization seems to run on water for everything. Within it, the towns did not disappoint at all. Rather than paths of cobblestone and concrete, most of the streets are either rivers that need a gondola to travel or bridges that entwine one harbor to another. The state was so big they can only reach this side rather than the elite capital that housed the aristocratic population. Their gondolier sang praises about it, calling the place the center of history enriched with ancient knowledge as much as material wealth. Although, he sassed that a few of the folks could use some attitude adjustment.
As the three arrive at the docks, they are met by a swarm of people leading into the urban area. It was the marketplace side of the harbor so the crowd was to be expected. There are also less towering houses which gave them a view of the distant mountains on the more rural islands.
When the ever curious Solstice asked what was out there, the gondolier hummed kindly yet firmly.
"Only adventurers dare to travel on those parts, dear little one." He said, "The aristocrats reach out to the guilds to commission them in harvesting the rarest materials from the mountains. Historians say it is a home to enlightened sages, whom helped push this city to its current glory and prosperity."
He playfully pokes her forehead with a scary face—
"Others believe it is a home for colossal monsters that sometimes lurk under our seas."
—but his countenance was so dramatic and comical that his words only amused the little girl rather than terrify her, much to her siblings' relief.
The friendly man chortled in tandem, beaming at Aether and Lumine knowingly.
"I think you two might be capable enough." He commented, "Those commissions fetch quite hefty prices. If you're interested in exploring while earning some quick money, I highly suggest taking a few of them from the guild. It's an automatic permission to travel the commonly restricted areas, such as the catacombs."
Lumine tilted her head bemusedly, "The catacombs, you say...?"
"You'll recognize them when you see them, milady~!"
Aether gives one last thanks to the gondolier, paying a good tip for his entertaining tour. He then heads for the city with his sisters, acting as the barricade between them and the strangers inevitably bumping into them. One of his hands was placed on his twin sister's shoulder to not lose them since her hands were occupied with Solstice, though he made sure not to put weight on it. His aureate eyes were kept sharp and alert, yet they also gleamed appraisingly while absorbing the magnificent sights. It has been a long time since he felt this childish excitement well up from his chest.
Lumine opted to carry Solstice on her back to avoid losing her in the crowd. She appeared just as gleeful as her twin brother, but retained vigilance. Her head turned to various stalls, selling everything from food to souvenirs. A mental note was made to buy new durable clothes for her little sister, whom is starting to outgrow her current sets.
"Look, look! Mimin, look there."
Solstice points with her rattle at the seagulls. As expected from a city of harbors, there was a great abundance of them gathering to fetch discarded morsels. No doubt, they were also being a bit of a nuisance to the tourists. The twins swore they even spotted a few pelicans hovering from the bright blue sky.
"Do you like the birds?" Aether asks adoringly before they passed by the avians.
Solstice hums affirmatively, giggling when some of the birds made funny faces at her.
For the little traveler, this was the first big city she has ever seen. The worlds they have discovered so far were usually centralized in nature, and the urban ones tend to be small towns rather than an evolved metropolis like this one. A perk which made the twins thank their lucky stars is that tourists are also quite common here. This fact effectively refrained them from sticking out and catching unwanted attention. It seems like the three could comfortably settle down here for a while until Solstice was ready for the next hop.

When first arriving here, the twins had been initially disappointed and a little depressed.
Once again, this world lacked the spark of "home" much like the previous ones. At times, Aether and Lumine would feel lost but still kept moving forward if only for Solstice. The small Outlander did not seem to mind the delay though, not at all. Instead, she seemed to enjoy herself in this world. The twins also took this opportunity to spend time with their baby sibling, cheered up by her optimism for life and adventure. Perhaps, that is why they decided to settle down in this world for a little longer. From a smaller town, they travelled on another boat to the capital city.
Fortunately, it was their lively gondolier again!
They even learn his name this time: Pierre.
"Good morn, my friends~!" He sang.
Aether and Lumine grinned at him while Solstice squealed, glomping the laughing man's legs.
Once away from the docks and into the actual city, the three could see bigger stands as well as more sophisticated shops that likely sell more exclusive wares. Almost everything is either an expensive boutique or a remote pawnshop. This part of the state have structures primarily made out of a white stone—resembling marble and jade—giving the city a clean and luxurious look.
Behind the city and separated by the ocean from miles away, the mountains are more visible now due to proximity and less obtrusive structures to block the view. Each is as high as the clouds, almost matching the castle towers and wealthy manors. Veiled by heavy mist, the eldritch silhouettes loomed from afar like phantoms with glowing eyes. Despite its gloomy outlook, the formation of the mountains were almost protective as they encompass the borders of entire city state. Once again, their gondolier told them about the rumored monsters. He speaks of how the ocean surrounding the city has been cradling beasts as big as these same mountains for millions of years. It is relatively debated whether some of them could be guardians of the fortress.
Since the city was surrounded by water, it was good for import and export trading as mentioned. Day in and day out, the city would receive goods from ships that would be sailing for weeks to trade. This is why the common grounds had docks scattered all over the territory. The capital was more formal since businesses are conducted through a schedule of meetings and the daily signings of orderly lawful contracts. Like they were told, commissions came easy through the guild and the merchants across the harbor. Both Aether and Lumine soon had gathered enough coin to live leisurely.
Once the twins had found an inn, they rented a room to leave some of their things. Then, they decided to visit the popular tourist spots and scenic routes to entertain Solstice. They took her to waterfalls, a smaller one where they can carefully guide her small hand into the flowing water. It never failed to make her laugh, which gained enamored smiles from her older siblings. The two had taken her on boat trips as well, sailing between the rows of houses in the rivers that crossed the city.
At one point, the twins followed the advice of taking commissions that let them explore the mountain islands. Sadly, Solstice had to sit out for her own safety; but she did not mind after getting bribed with a chance to spend a day in the capital's playground park. After hiring a trustworthy babysitter from the guild, they set off. Neither of the twins encountered any immortal sages, but they did feel many watchful eyes on them—wary yet not hostile—the entire time they lingered. They actually got lost a few times too, but trails of will-o'-the-wisps helped them get back on the right path. Aether even found secret passages that led to the infamous catacombs. As a lofty story to tell their sister, Lumine was more than excited to decipher the history behind them. It was a dark and spooky area but neither of the Outlanders were genuinely fazed by it.
They ended up discovering deep tunnels that went underwater. It was a series of coves wherein guild members are stationed at a checkpoint cabin if adventurers wish to scuba dive. Aether actually had fun with getting back to the city state that way, while Lumine opted to just use the transport they had upon arriving in the mountain isles. It will not do to neglect the sailors that helped them travel here.
Besides visiting these tourist spots, Solstice got to try out many delicacies as well.
•
•
•
Lumine walks back to the table once she finished ordering their food.
The twins had decided to visit a popular restaurant today since they will be setting out to another world soon. Before that, they wanted to give Solstice the opportunity to taste whatever she wanted. All three of them are quite the foodies, which makes gourmet their default bonding moment. It was hard to leave, especially when the twins have no idea what would come next. They could only hope that "home" is as fun for their little sister as this world.
"Don't let the bird bite you." Aether warned.
He watches guardedly as Solstice crouched down next to the seagulls. A piece of bread is in her hand, tearing it crumb by crumb to feed the birds. They can always find a colony of them in every tourist spot they visited. The youngest Outlander liked to befriend them but Aether disapproved. As she hears her older brother call out for her, Solstice stands up again and turns away. She shoots one last goodbye and returns to her siblings.
When Lumine sees her sister struggle to get on the chair, she helps by lifting her up.
"Did you make new friends?" She asks.
Solstice always had a soft spot for winged animals, specifically dragons. Birds would do just as well, especially colorful ones like peacocks or the dainty hummingbirds. She also likes a few insects such as butterflies, dragonflies, and bumblebees—as long as she keeps her distance to avoid giving the twins a heart attack. In response to her sister's question, the little traveler puts up two fingers.
"Two, eh?" Lumine teased playfully, "I think that makes it...twenty-one bird friends already?"
She turns around and grins mockingly at Aether, who just glared back at her. He somehow had managed to get pecked by the seagulls when taking Solstice away from them. Apparently, the things get moody when a third party tries to take their snack supplier away. One flock would peck and pull on Aether's braids, while another would act like perfect little angels by nuzzling Solstice for more food. Ever since then, he had held a grudge. The feeling seems mutual with how they tauntingly squawk at the mere sight of him.
During dinner, the trio listened to a storyteller who had been entertaining the restaurant regularly. Much like Pierre yet more solemn than comedic, the old wiseman recounts about ancient tales and stories of the ocean monsters. He also spoke myths regarding the sages in the mountains, about how they grant wishes and protection via lantern rites on the first full moon of the year. There are even tales of a clash between these sages and the ocean beasts so long ago, before ending on a treaty that paved the way for the age of contracts. His version had more details, focusing on facts with immersive flare than theatric entertainment. Solstice had been more intrigued by the storyteller than the food. Both of the twins had to remind her to eat before the food got cold and unappetizing.
The next morning, Aether and Lumine took Solstice to yet another world.
『 Crossing Sol's burning gaze 』
"Whoa!" Solstice exclaims, "What is that?"
Her mouth is parted in dumbfounded shock before just as quickly turning into an excited grin. Her eyes are focused on the erupting volcano in the distance, ashclouds and magma rising. In the middle of the night, a powerful shockwave was released by said volcano which then captured the attention of the three Outlanders.
Aether lifts Solstice up in his arms.
"It's a volcano." He replied.
Lumine walks up next to her brother and ruffles her sister's hair, a habit she had developed.
"No worries." She reassured calmly, "We won't feel its impact here. Most we'll notice is the shockwave that already passed."
The trio can see how the gray ashclouds invaded the previously clear blue skies. Its cluster is gradually taking over the territory around it like an avalanche of soot. The bright lava gave a beautiful firework show as it exploded into the air before flowing down like a slow stream of rio grande. As hypnotic as its beauty appeared, the people closer to the volcano are likely looking at it in terror.
Solstice's eyes are wide open, staring at the lava still shooting into the air. The glimmers in her eyes now stand out even more because of the bright light it casts. As she watched the force of nature, her twin siblings found it more fascinating and amusing to watch her reactions. They exchanged wide smiles before leaving their little sister by the window, now aiming to get some snacks. It was pointless to try falling back asleep by now.
The trio had been sleeping in a cottage built in an oasis on the other side of a jungle. They had seen the volcano but decided to move around it, travelling through the thick marshes and swamps. It was a bit troublesome for the twins, especially with a small child to carry the entire way; but it seems like they made the right choice in the end. A few insects and wandering wild animals from the unforgiving jungle were no match to a duo of protective siblings. They did spot treehouses spread out in the dryer parts of the forestry, but only few people were stationed. It was more likely a bunch of outposts than legitimate residences, but all of them look fortified as real functional shelters.
Solstice's eyes are still focused on the volcano. Its eruption lasted long, and it made her want to stay awake for the whole night. The lava had shone so brightly, an ominous glow that depicts beauty in a natural catastrophe. An adventurous voice inside of her said, "Touch the bright glowy thing!"
—but both Aether and Lumine had explained that it was dangerous. That is why they had taken a detour in the first place, which meant no touching.
The little traveler nods sagely, "I'm a good girl."
In this world as well, Solstice experienced many new things. First, they landed in a desert. There was sand everywhere, and it was too hard for Solstice to walk amongst the dunes. Luckily, there were friendly animals that she could ride as the twins guided it with a leash. The caretakers called them "camels" which resembled horses with lumps on their backs, and a relatively goofier face. Once out of the desert, they found signs of civilization. Unfortunately, the twins thought it was too close to the volcano as they ventured towards the jungle. Soon enough, they reached the oasis just on the other side of the jungle and renovated the cottage for shelter.
When the Outlanders had ventured further into the jungle, they had noticed its great food source and minerals; and if there was a lot of food, a village follows where the river runs. For the next few days, the twins had searched for another town yet they only stumbled upon this oasis cottage. Inside, there were maps and books which gave the two enough information about this world. From what they have read, the former owner must have been a researcher or perhaps even a fellow traveler.
It was no permanent home, everyone knew; but they decided to stay a few more days. Survival in this world was more tiring than usual, even for Aether and Lumine. Rather than earning money through commissions, they needed to scavenge for their own food and other daily resources. Thankfully, the maps aided them in finding the good spots and the notes told them what was safe to consume or otherwise better left alone. Solstice even found a hidden ledger for medicinal herbs and potion mixtures. There was also a chest of interesting clothes, looking like they belong to fairies due to how they sparkled. The style varies from tunics, off-shouldered crop tops, veils, turbans, harem pants, cardigans, shawls, scarves, and vests. The bottom is filled with gold accessories and gemstone jewelry, very priceless and heavy.
In respect to the former owners, Aether and Lumine returned the chest to where they found it.
Indeed, they will just spend a few more days here to recuperate and perhaps even train. After all, their youngest is at a good age to learn more about her powers and practice swordsmanship. There is no time like the present to seize the day.
Afterwards, they would venture out again.
Solstice is outside, playing with her Primo Stella rattle and unleashing its jingle. The unique sound has always somehow calmed her, reminding her of the realm where she was born—Cosmogenesis, the twins told her of its name. There are times in-between worlds where Aether and Lumine would take her for a short stop in the dimension. It was usually to ask for some advice from the older Outlanders. Meanwhile, she is usually left to play with the stardust pixies that take form due to the realm's cosmic energy. Then, her siblings would join her again and share some stories that the Elders had told them when they were little.
The innovative little girl wonders if she can make those same pixies with Primo Stella.
While she was playing, the twins are getting ready to leave the current world. They gather the few things they have in their possession, such as their swords and extra clothes. Their wings are out and openly exposed, ready for the flight to another star. Every now and then, the appendages would move to help them levitate and reach a higher shelf.
Lumine walks inside the cottage and checks it one last time for good measure. They could not afford to leave behind anything. Last night, both of the twins had returned the interior as they found it—a trivial thing they always did in courtesy, but also to leave no traces. It was an innate habit that most Outlanders develop, to never ever imprint signs of attachment to a world that is not their home. It helps deter them from looking back or having regrets.
"You ready to go, sis?" Aether asked.
He was already out of the cottage, stretching and keeping an eye on Solstice. His sword is in his right hand, swinging it a few times skillfully.
"I hope we find a nice world where we can celebrate Solstice's 6th birthday." He continues.
His aureate gaze focused on his baby sibling for a moment. She was completely enraptured by the rattle, which was glowing brighter than usual.
Aether returns his attention to Lumine, who was almost done checking. The tinkling sounds from the rattle fills the silence as he waits for his twin sister, just a tad impatiently.
Lumine walks out of the cottage, closing the door on her way out. She points the hilt of her sword towards her brother so he could take it. Last time, he carried Solstice; so this time, it will be her turn. Their sibling is a growing girl, and they needed both arms to carry her safely. They take no chances until her own wings could sprout, which might be soon.
Suddenly, there was a heavy silence.
Aether arches his eyebrow, looking over his shoulder as the incessant chimes had stopped. He wants to ask Solstice what was wrong, but he was interrupted by another shockwave. This time, it was way closer and filled him with wordless dread due to its catalyst. He heard Lumine exclaim something in alarm and distress.
Solstice had broken the relic's seal.
Horrified, both twins urgently reached out for their little sister. The Elders warned them that the seal should never be lifted prematurely, so they had implemented a failsafe for it. How did such a young girl like Solstice break it? Nobody knew what to expect. Most assume what would occur is nothing short of disastrous. They were so utterly terrified because they could not survive the thought of losing their sister, not now and not ever.
Alas, it was practically inevitable.
Because when the shockwave had passed, Solstice was undeniably already gone.
『 Venus sets ablaze 』
The first year of Solstice's life was spent sleeping in Cosmogenesis, as expected.
Just like any other Outlander, it was spent gathering enough energy to sustain herself. During this time, the twins stayed by her side and comforted the newborn in her sleep. They had told her all about the worlds they visited, and how they wanted to find "home" together with their new baby sister. It was a moment filled with innocence and warmth.
The first year of Solstice's life was also dark and admittedly dull. Dark, because she was not able to witness anything with her own eyes yet; and dull, because she could not do anything at all. The only thing she felt was the energy flowing inside of her, making her whole—as if she was a doll slowly being put together by an expert craftsman. It honestly felt peculiar, but also warm and comfortable. Perhaps, that was because Aether and Lumine were always by her side to keep the loneliness at bay. They had always assured she was kept healthy and secure.
Currently, Solstice is experiencing something similar yet also something different.
There was an immense amount of energy flowing inside of her and then back outside. It was like she acted as a medium in a cycling network. The clinical process lacked the familiar warmth and comfort from Cosmogenesis. However, it was not entirely unpleasant...but more so disorienting and confusing. This is new and unknown to her so she felt the need to be a little cautious despite her curiosity. Her siblings taught her to always practice that balanced mindset.
Solstice wondered if she was dreaming again. There are times when things took too much energy from her, so she would fall into a deep slumber. Still, there is a nagging at the back of her mind that tells her this time would be different.
Then, she gains an astonishing epiphany.
Usually, her Primo Stella rattle would give her energy in the form of mana. This time, it takes from her in a way that it was channeling her power. The star had synchronized with her will, especially her memories and her dreams, to create something. She had no idea what it could be but she wanted to see.
Ten years pass and at last—
on the eve of Solstice's 16th birthday,
TEYVAT was fully created.
As midnight struck and the day arose, Solstice has reached full maturity as an Outlander. Her power lets out a final surge across the new land. This celestial phenomenon created three realms coexisting in harmony, welcoming yet untouchable.
When dawn settles over Teyvat,
Solstice finally opens her eyes
for the first time in ten years.

Aether brings Xiao to a special area near Mt. Laixin
A special chapter to make it up for Xiao's bday!
C.W.:
- Fluff and angst - Kong | Aether is a ray of sunshine - Pining Xiao | Alatus - Mild sexual content - Light-hearted - Mentioned Lyney and Verr Goldet
.
.
.
Dear Xiao,
I’ve recently finished my exploration around Chenyu Vale, and the place has delightful scenery!
I’ve gone through the journey of tea leaves, hiking through mountains of mists, and fought a lot of new creatures. Recently, I’ve stumbled upon a location that reminds me of a place called, “The Orchard of Pairidaeza”, also known as the “Eternal Oasis” back in Sumeru.
I want you to come with me to witness this familiar feeling I have felt when I explored the Eternal Oasis.
I thought about calling you at that said time, but if you have free time you can come early if you wish! I don’t want to rush you into things.
I will be waiting for you near Mt. Laixin. If you look at the next page of this letter, I have the coordinates for this specific place.
From your traveller,
Aether.
What’s so special about that place in Chenyu Vale? A question that Xiao has pondered for the whole afternoon. What was originally a letter that was held in Verr Goldet’s hands, was something special that Xiao had to skim through the letter three times just to be sure.
An invitation to explore the area around Mt. Laixin.
A special area, Xiao’s eyes highlighted those words.
Although Xiao hasn’t really ventured deep into Chenyu Bale, he remembered how the gentle breezes carry the fragrance of tea all across the mountains of Liyue, filling the air with the savoury scent. Some say that Chenyu Vale is the fog-robed peaks of the south. The faint perfume and ancient song of jade drifts together along the rivers past Qiaoying Village to the bustling port of Yilong Wharf.
In a flash of thick dark mists, Xiao teleports himself from the top of the roof of Wangshu Inn, to a place where the first view he sees is the glowing floating jade on the summit of Mt. Laixin, where an arrow of a blue light shines through the sky. A few Sacred Simulacrums that looked to be carved as jade owls were placed on some lands, their shade of jade glowing brighter under the moonlight.
“The Chiwang Terrace…” Xiao admires the glow of the jade light amidst the destruction of the terrace above, where concrete and jade float into the air around the summit.
Just then, he hears the angry groan of a lawachurl. Xiao immediately turns his head down from the top of a boulder he was standing on, donning his mask, summoning his spear in thin air, prepared for whatever obstacle he’s about to face–
“Wiiinnnddblaaaadeeeee!!”
He sees a flash of a yellow light, the outlander’s blade slicing through the lawachurl’s defence with lethal precision. The clash of steel and rock clashes through the air, and Aether immediately jumps up into the air… and pierces his sword directing into its chest!
With a sorrowful groan, the lawachurl slumps to the ground, its body slowly disintegrating into ashes, gleams of blue and white light casting out of its body. With a heavy heave, Aether stabs his sword onto the soil, sweat dripping down from his chin and neck.
That serious look of his changes instantly when he sees a gigantic precious chest in front of him, now unlocked for all its glory.
“Yippie, new loot!” Aether gleefully runs over to the chest, and slowly opens it, revealing all of the artefacts, some mystic enhancement ores, and moras. Xiao slowly walks towards him, his footsteps quiet as he observes the outlander admiring the success of his victory against the lawachurl.
“Why would anyone want–” Xiao stops himself and changes his sentence, looking at the mountains of Chenyu Vale that are shrouded with clouds. “Forget it, it’s not my concern.”
Aether’s ears perk up from that familiar voice, and he quickly turns his head to find Xiao behind him, standing within a distance.
“Xiao! You’re here.” Aether gives him a bright smile, and runs over to him. “I’m glad, I was really worried that you wouldn’t come.”
“Why would you be worried?” Xiao asks, his jaw flexes and creases form around his eyes, and Aether knows he’s tense. “Do you perhaps not remember, or trust my promise? I told you before, if you ever need me, call me.”
“I know, I know.” Aether sheepishly rubs the back of his neck. “Even though you have accepted my calls many times, my mind couldn’t help but always think of the second scenario.”
“...Hmph.” That made Xiao let out a scoff, turning his back away to avoid Aether from seeing his face.
I’ll never understand mortals’– and your expectation of disappointment.
Seeing this action from the Vigilant Yaksha, a big, imaginary bead of sweat falls down on Aether’s head from the guilt of his words. Aether slowly walks towards Xiao from behind, in tiptoes.
“Oh Vigilant Yaksha, I’m sorry!” Aether calls out his name from behind.
The yaksha ignores.
“ General Alatus… Heed my apology, pleaseeee~” Aether purrs the title, turns it into a caress, and Xiao shudders. He could feel Aether’s voice near his ear, and he instinctively turns his head to the side.
“Xiao Xiao~” Aether whispers in the nape of his ear, making Xiao’s back shiver instantly. Xiao immediately turns away, his expression a mix of fluster and frustration, and a pink hue escapes his ears.
“What exactly do you want to show me?” Xiao diverts the subject.
“Come with me!” Aether gives Xiao an excited smile, takes his hand, and runs with him…
Onto the lake.
As the moon casts its silvery glow upon the tranquil surface of the lake, Aether steps upon the water, as if defying the laws of nature itself. As time seemed to slow down, Xiao looks down to see Aether’s footsteps leaving shimmering ripples and glows, the faintest whisper of light trailing behind like ethereal footprints upon the surface of the water.
He gazes at the outlander’s back, whose golden, braided hair flies gently in the wind, and the scent of Qingxin touches Xiao’s nose.
Back in the present time, each of Xiao’s steps reveals the gentle glow that emanated from his feet, casting a soft luminescence upon the water.
It was as if their very beings were infused with starlight, a celestial aura that illuminated the darkness with its radiant glow.
Despite the brilliance of their glow, Xiao observes how they remained untouched by the waters below, their feet suspended above the surface as if borne aloft by unseen forces.
Aether releases his grip, spins, and turns to him with a smile, his hands on his back.
“Tada! What do you think? I’ve been doing some quests and I managed to find this place!” Aether asks. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Aether’s movements were fluid and graceful, his feet scarcely disturbing the stillness of the lake as he glided effortlessly across its mirrored surface.
With his heart doing physiologically impossible things, Xiao manages a sentence. “Yes, it is certainly unique compared to the other areas of Liyue. Truthfully, it has been a long time since I have ever heard of Chenyu Vale, so I haven’t…”
Xiao looked down to find not a drop of water dared to mar his boots, nor did a ripple disturb the perfect reflection of the moon above.
“Xiao? Have you ever danced–”
“No.”
That immediate answer made Aether cast Xiao a long and measuring look, and Xiao keeps his face schooled into a mask of neutrality.
“...Back then, on some carefree nights,” Xiao explains. “Bosacius would force me to join with them, and I would always refuse. As a general yaksha, it’s silly, senseless, and unwise.”
“So?” Aether asks, shrugging his arms. “It’s just the two of us, so your reputation won’t be destroyed by some silly dance. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with dancing. I’m almost certain that the other adepti have danced before.”
Xiao’s heart pounds. Blood surges through his veins.
“Aether, are you asking…”
Aether gives him a bow, Fontaine style, and extends a hand up to him.
“Shall we dance, Vigilant Yaksha?”
Beneath the shimmering glow of the moon, its silver rays painting a celestial pathway upon the surface of the tranquil lake, two figures stood…

____[💀]____
DAY 1.
Dvalin was poisoned, a pity, such majestic beast commanded like a plaything in a weird game of power. You undestand the -what was her title again? - outlander stuck in your home, Khaenri'ah was...a loaded time, EVEN for you and you were death in its purest form! Your whole thing was guiding the living in the best way possible and still, If you used any form other than being a thing of raw energy to do the reaping ,your stomachs would roll in itself.
However, you didn't play a part, life does its thing and you do yours, If They brought powerful beings into existence and they decide to end others, your job were comforting the...losing side. The little guy, and - If karma works. - reap the power in the root when They no longer play their part in life's game, the cycle that always end with you. Hey! You didn't always got to laugh and irony would always get a chuckle out of you, for how much life's spectacle confuses you and you prefer to avoid It, They could construct clever plot twists.
DAY 30.
Another Outlander.
Twin to that princess - you finally caught on how she calls herself! -, and just as full of surprises of all other outlanders, seriously! Can't Teyvat get a nice and chill visitor just enjoying some vacation?
This one seems more benevolent, at least, fitting the role of hero perfectly: shine and long hair, soft spoken yet fierce and ready to jump into action when needed, dashing even If he's marked by lasting scars, he even got the companion who kept his things for him! Still, his sister was also like that at the start.... though her companion has way bigger and...rugged looking than his fairy like child/eons old kid.
He was helping Dvalin in the end and that was enough for you, you always had a soft spot for that big softie, its enourmous heart made of meat, but could fool anyone into thinking It was gold instead. If They could look past the humongous part of his... everything, especially the teeth and and claws. Such protective dragon, It saddened you to see him being played like a fiddle and be turned against the very thing It wanted so desperately to protect - that was an irony in itself, one that didn't make you laugh.
DAY 40.
Okay, what the f*ck?!
Blondie was sent flying down in Dvalin's den, you are sure! You Saw!
It was kinda dumb, poor thing had been thrown like a ragdool to the thousand winds to devour and sure, you were kinda of slacking again, but! You could justify It!
Such lovely fight!
Like a scene out off a children's book when the knight and their friends are losing but win in the last second with the power of friendship! You know, without the dying part.
Just! No one seemed to notice the flying blond Guy going straight to his end! Not even a teeny tiny twitch or a shout of "NO!" like every other dramatic death you reaped, no no no no ... Red, overworked, fairy and drunkard didn't need to, because blondie just...POP!
BACK INTO EXISTENCE! COMPLETE FINE INSTEAD OF TURNING PANCAKE SHAPE. WTF!?!
HOW?!
DAY 45.
It was been five days, five days of following blond hero, supposed to be dead blond hero. Being sincere, you were luck to be able to hold a shadow form, that existed purely of energy, because It would be creepy as Celestia for any other form you could copy to insistenly follow them, no matter how mesmorizing "honorary Knight" could be...or How against the law of everything you are he could bend, f*uck!
Eyes in the game!
Did he have some hidden power? Some odd, ancient, powerful item??
You hope to Celestia and back It was just a one time thing...
Well, he was still in Mondstadt, you had some more time to spare for this topic, right?
....right?
50 DAYS.
Okay! Okay... Everything was going way to fast!
Princess and hero fighting against each other, twins of opposing sides, could It be a ying and yang thing? With a mystery of who is who!
The hero was extremely quiet, emitting a sadness not even your untangible form could not feel too, but f*uck this! He is going to Liyue and you still haven't discovered which thing he uses to avoid you!
A hilichurl go a little crazy with a shield and takes him to a lovely yet extremely painful little walk? Thats Fine! He can eat an egg and everything is fine!
A teammate of his is burnt off by an abyssmal mage? EGG!
A slime pushes him a little too far while he is too close to the far end of a cliff? He can use his paraglide, but If he isn't fast enough, WHO CARES?! IT'S NOT LIKE HE CAN DIE! HE EATS A F*CKING EGG!
Maybe...maybe It was the egg?
60 DAYS.
You've been following him and his companion, not blinking, not resting, not breathing nor looking away, a shadow shadowing a hero like his on shadow. Wow, too many shadows being thrown around, BUT, while boring, you finally have seen.
He didn't seen to choose a especific bird, any seemed to do the job just fine as long as It laid eggs, still, you follow and keep a sharp eye for the most robust and lively bird he picks from. The one you don't feel the pull yet, solely a child of life enjoying the ripe of Its youth, and absolutely ready to lay equally lively children, that...ok, you just needed to test! One egg would be enough! It could keep its offspring after you solved this mystery.
---
Time has come, he picked the eggs of a beautiful and lovely dove, big and chubby and ,most important, healthy.
After reflecting for a long time while following the hero, you've decided to pick It for adoption, carry It as your own little companion If you will! And you would also pick your human form so you may care for It to the best of your abilities.
After waiting till the hero crossed Liyue's borders, under your watchful gaze, till he's just a blonde faraway point, you turn. Your shadows slowly form a body, human, something that resembles life and still, resounding an aurea that stinks of death. Fragile, extremely fragile body, which you so forgetful forgot.
Cries, pleads and shouts fills your ears, images of the ill, the hurt and the desperate fills your eyes, your skin feels every tear and stab and bruise of those waiting for you. Everything it's too much!
The dead screams!
Pleads for time and the end of It, begs for the clock to stop and rush at the same time, for another chance of life, but for the mercy to let the pain end. "DAYS! Too many days!" - They screech.
Your ears pop, the pain so great your knees tremble and bend, your stomach spasms and, EVEN as empty as It is at the moment, you vomit. Burning sensation rises up your throat, a cought tries to open passage for air for your lungs and It causes you to choke in spit and the acid of your gut. Everything, EVERYTHING ,hurts, just like all the souls you left hanging while in your obssessive Quest for the truth and with just a painful ringing to keep you company, you faint.
----
65 DAYS.
Sooo....you came to the conclusion that holding an obssession wasn't ideal, thus you decided your shadow form should be kept away for now. It's been too long, too long since you used any other "Alive" shape, you obviously didn't notice How long with how powerful and distant from life's essence It were.
Which brings you to your current problem, it's been so long since you were really interested in anything and the moment something caught your eyes...you forgot about the souls that rely on you. They considered luck to be left alone for some moments, time to work on things before passing for real, but soon the pain of a spirit losing itself came for them...and you were the reason
Forget It, you could rely in your human body, be in touch with life's creations and do your f*cking job right! Even If It was overwhelmed easily and got hungry, tired and dirty fast.
Also...catching the dove was harder than you thought.
What? You could be responsible...and you felt kinda lonely not having the omnipotence of your previuosly form...
80 DAYS.
TIM! Your big Dove's name! ❤️
It took some days, but you finally got It to warm up to you! Sure, making Tim move here and there to keep up with your work and the journey of the hero wasn't easy, It didn't like much, but you give It everything It wants to make It comfortable. You even dressed for the winter so your skin won't touch theirs, not corrupting its life.
That also made a Celestia of an experiment, who knew the human body could faint because of the heat? And that Liyue's heat is a nighmare?
But It is also cool diving in the ocean, It is fun hiking in the rocks, It is delicious to taste the cuisine and experience the freshness from drinking the juices of different fruits, it's awesome letting the less bitter souls give you bits of advice about places and things you should do because They had loved to do when the could and actually getting to do It! Overall, passing as a human isn't going that bad... Though the weather could be a little kinder.
90 DAYS.
Tim is taking its sweet time to lay another egg, it's kinda boring, but you mean...Liyue had a false body fall from the sky and the fatui were getting a little too comfortable with going around killing people these days in the region, everyone was freaking out, so It may have stressed It. You also didn't make It any easier by observing Tim like a hawk, poor thing must think you want to eat it.
....Ooops.
----
It made you kinda anxious, but Tim needs its privacy to do its things and you aren't feeling the pull for It yet, so you decide its safe to let It be while you go fetch a soul in Huaguang Stone Forest. Beautiful place, its a pity it's so diffucult to reach any of Its peaks in a human body, still work calls and you can't exactly afford to let them waiting for long, so your obssession turned journey of discovered has to have some exceptions of when you can enter in touch with your powers. Although...
Your body dissolves in energy, losing the human form and gently making its bones into some type of jelly before bending them, slowly organs reform, hair puffies before fusing in sections to gain new color and designs, making Itself into feathers, your eyesight expands and languidly, oh so calmly, you aren't a human, but a hawk. Its techinically a loophole in the rules you set for your trip, keeping a corporal body that's also in touch with life's creations while being way faster than going by human feet.
Oohhhh, you are so smart!
You shake your new body, ruffling your wings to see how big the were and to get the feeling of It, you haven't flew in so long using wings! You fling yourself to the sky to get altitude, higher and higher, the wind blows and the rays of moonlight that passes the clouds shines like the purest of silver in this cloudy night.
When you almost reach the clouds, you drop.
It feels exciting! The closest thing you think you can compare to what humans call being alive - and you actually got to meet with life and feel their energy!
With a sharp and loud screech, you start your way to Huaguang Stone Forest for real.
**💀**
It took some time - and what beautiful time It took, such marvelous sights! -, but you reach your goal and roll to the ground when you land, your newly body doing the closest sound It can to a snicker even If the sound isn't actually hawk like. Your laugh echos in a weird melody of species with the goop sound your organs and bones do as They shift, rearrange.
After many minutes go by, a human lay where the strange hawk stod, gasping in laughter with an undoubtedly humane tone. Maybe with some snorts close to that of a pig, but human like altogether in the end.
You left your winter clothes behind, Tim had been sleeping in them and you haven't had the need to touch It so you didn't feel the need to bring with you...also, a hawk can't exactly fly with clothes hanging in its body - not human clothes, at least.
So...stolen clothes would do!
You slowly stand up, the grass your naked skin touched losing its vibrance, yet It is still alive, having the shell of meat in human form do work in keeping you aura at bay. Even If It still has influence in weaker beings or strong ones, If for exposure in prolonged time. You hope you won't have to engage in combat for clothes...
As If nature Itself heard you, multiple bodies appear in your path. Knocked out, you aren't that tone deaf to steal from the dead...at least, not while they are still around, but from life?! Ooohhhh!! It's fair game! If you don't leave them naked, humans don't like naked for what your experience has to say...
You walk around the sleeping, It feels like shopping! Maybe you should invest in a pouch for the shine rocks or golden coins humans use for trade to keep with you, maybe you ...sho-should you leave something for what you take? Is this some type of shopping?
Hugh....humans and their social rules! Why do they have so many?!
... whatever, picking the fatui's coat that appealed more to you, you focus on following the stench of the dead. Which...is a strangely convenient coincidence that the trail of knocked out people also lead to the same way.
Is your new child a fighter?! This trip was getting more and more entertaining by the second! Can they tell their tales to you??
Maybe They liked to travel! Seeing Liyue trouthg the eyes of a human was nothing like experiencing trouthg an overpowered shadow form, you couldn't wait to see other regions! But your trip kept you close to the blond who seemed to atract problems, so you had to settle in Liyue and tales by mouth to mouth would have to suffice for now.
With a spring in your step, you jump fatui and treasure hoarders alike, all in the arms of sleep trouthg a good beating. Maybe your child is a wanderer. Maybe They were in a rough patch in their life and turned to the treasure hoarders. Maybe They were vigilantes!
Countless 'maybe's fly trouthg your head, many 'what if's forming would be scenarios. Which would have made you pass your goal If not for angry screams resounding the hollow trees, a smile form in your lips, "peek a boo, I found you" you whisper gently.
Your steps don't make any sound, and in teory It would be 'whatever', as young humans put It, but the back that greeted you were very much alive and talking to a not so much alive ghost. A ghost who is starting to look very angry, very fast.
"no ~ no ~ no!!! ~ This is unfair!! ~ I'm the adventurer!"
"Not so much anymore, hehe, but you can still explore the afterlife!" - the girl(?), long pigtails individual, said amiably. Twisting and turning a red, fiery looking polearm this and that way in a distracted manner.
"do you think you're funny?! ~ do you think you're better because you could take that low lifes dow?!"
"Maybe a little bit" - pigtails say with a shrug, which wow! That lithe and small person could cause a havoc! And either They are obvious or have some guts in them!
Your child is looking more and more furious by the second! Red smoke distorcing the figure their soul is trying hold, closest It can to their previous shell. One day and a half isn't enough to let them completely lose It, but still...at least you now know their anger seems to be the thing keeping them stuck at the mortal plane.
"i Will show you funny ~"
The second They shift, you jump from behind the trees. That phrase is never a good sign...
"Wait, wait, come back, my child!" - you extend your arms to the fading spirit, yet its all in vain as they don't even acknowledge you.
Which isn't the case to pigtails...
"Oh! Hello, there stranger!" - pigtails cheerfully says before taking a defensive stand, keeping you behind her as a protector would. "Haven't you ever heard of stranger danger, silly?"
"Well, have you, young lad?" - you put your hands in your waist, now that you're closer you feel the stronger pull of youth coming from pigtails. They are definitely a briliant being, the pryo inside them ravages like a beast and yet, the smell of your natural perfume clings to them. Death is a part of their nature...however, life shines through them? What the Celestial f*ck?...
"fast comeback, but oh! So unoriginal, odd stranger, I'm not the one looking like a step away from passing beyond the veil, you better take better care of your healthy," - she spares a second to lightly pat your cheek while giving you a big smile, almost makes you feel like you are the youngester here. - "Or not! But before going down remember to appoint wangshu funeral parlor for the service!" - she winks before looking ahead once again. Straightening her back and readjusting her hold on the spear.
Wangshu funeral parlor?...OH!! How could you forget your little helpers of Liyue? There isn't many people that admire your job like that family do!Ah! This must be the 77° now, Tao or something, carrying your message of harmony....wait a minute....wait a damn minute!
"Hey! What are you insinuating?! I'm stronger and healthier than you!" - looking a step away from passing?! Your human body is fine!
She is silent for a second, before slowly turning her head.
She surveys your apparence, head to toe, though It feels almost like she is just doing this to entertain you... "Sure" - a pitiful smile graces her face.
...
The audacity of this girl!! Uhhhgg!!
The earth quakes, loud sounds of machinery clicking and clacking, starting an engine that should've settled long ago. Also completelly silencing your 'Uhg!', which, 'wow, okay' , couldn't It come when you weren't expressing How infuriating this girl was in a very human like manner?! If you can't use the human sounds to express yourself in their grunting language than why did you even learn in the first place?!
The robot rises and in heavy footsteps approaches you two. So the soul is a fighter after all, If only It didn't want to fight you...
Before you can sight in exasperation, Tao dissapear in a flash of pyro butterflies, going direct to the thing's head. Being sincere, you would be more annoyed at the way people interrupt you in one of the few chances you have to show how much you learnt of the grunting art If not for how fierce the butterflies attack the giant, before the teen appears to give it some taste of her spear.
Haha, you have seen butterflies drink the blood of corpses, but this was another level! You can only stare!
This girl had some spunk! Or...anger issues, but whatever! This was a great fight and If she won, your job would be done! A wounded pride can do wonders to one of your children when trowning tantrums about not wanting to join you.
You sit back, a smile tugs your lips, that is until she purposely stops. Just stops, staring the robot as If a giant fist isn't heading straight to her stomach!
And straight into It goes, you can't even approache before she is flung to your feet! You swear you hear a sick clack of breaking bones.
The giant jumps and, as impressive as It is to see that the sack of heavy machinery can actually jump and pretty high at that, you know is planning to use your skulls as landing marks. You are death, but you aren't a masochist!
You catch the girl by the armpits and drags her back. The thing lands - right in front of you two. -, dust rises. Okay, this is It, this naughty child has had it's fun, but is time to settle down now.
You embrace the girl with one of your arms - is time to protect her as she tried to do to you, also show you aren't at death's door! That doesn't even make sense, what door? And How would you be at your own door knocking?! - and raises an arm to the things leg. Touching it's knee, you feel it's essence being sucked into your palm, you look at it's eye - red laser pointing diretcly at your chest, the missils almost ready to fly no doubt- , still you try to put some comfort through your eyes to your child, "Is time to go-
A hellfire explodes in your arm, ironically, is not the arm touching the robot, no, is the one holding the girl. A ghost, butterflies, all engulfed in pryo, embers so high and bright and so, so hot!You let go, your body flings Itself away. Letting go of both the mechanical body as the human you were holding.
And yet, for as far as you went in your desperation and pain, an enourmous fist comes crashing into your side - the one who isn't on fire, as If the peeling skin isn't enough. Stars explodes behind your eyes, burning pain erupts everywhere - even your brain seems to be boiling. Hearing a girlish shout as the last thing echoing in your ears, you once again faint to an extreme amount of pain since your first day of being human. How long did you last since then?
At least, this time, your ears didn't pop ...

"___" means xyz is talking, '____' means xyz is thinking/mocking
F!reader so if your a boy too bad, gotta put on your wig and dive in
My (not) first time so don't mind it being badly written 😢
NOT PROOFREAD! THIS FANFIC IS ALSO BASED ON THE ACTUAL GAME ARCHON QUEST with a few tweaks ofc
STRINGED BY FATE
The dream kepted on repeating nonstop. As the blonde twins walk towards the exit, the godly being made her entrance as the were going.
"Who are you?!"
"The sustainer of heavenly principles. The arrogation of mankind ends now."
As the woman raise her attack, the twins dodge them. They both summoned their wings and raised their weapon. Their wings were angelic like an angel, gilmmering as the sun shines on it. They the both flew together, ready to place their attack on the woman. Time stopped, slowing itself down. Only the woman was moving, and she was moving towards me.
"Choose, outlander. Choose the fate of Teyvat," she told.
'Choose?' I thought, 'I can't choose, they're twins!'
"Can't they be together?" I asked.
"Their fate depends on you. Teyvat's fate is in your hands."
I took a look at the twins again, feeling guilty of what I'm about to do.
"I choose — Aether!"
"Very well."
As she floated back into her place, I was floating there, feeling guilty about what I did. I knew this is how it went but it just made my stomach fall into the pit of the abyss. As I watch them both get taken away, everything blacked out.
I heard rumbling and a very high-pitched voice that makes my ear deaf.
"Hmp! I don't understand why we even keep her! She basically sleeps all day and never wakes up!"
"Just be patient. They'll wake up sooner or later."
I scrunch my eyes at the light. 'Gosh, who turned on the light,' I thought. I moved my hand to block the light and heard a screech..
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!! THEY'RE ALIVE!!!"
I covered my ears in annoyance.
"Yes! I'm alive! What a surprise," I said sarcastically.
I sat up an tried to get up but failed miserably. Aether came up to me and helped me.
"How long did I sleep for me to not be able to walk properly?"
"Well...you did sleep for quite a few months," he answered.
"A FEW MONTHS!?"
"Erm...yes, a few months. You're a heavy sleeper you know..." Paimon said awkwardly.
"Who would've known.." I mumbled.
I had to stretch to get that grogginess off my body. I got the hang of it in the end. We soon walked up the path. As we walked up the path, Paimon and Aether talked about themselves and their story about how they met, expect Paimon mostly talked about Teyvat while Aether teased her.
"That's one of the state of the seven!"
We paused to look at the view and gosh the view was beautiful until we saw a dragon fly across. 'Dvalin really did just ruin the moment.'
"Come on! Stop standing there and let's go!" Paimon yelled.
"We're coming," I sighed.
We walked over to the statue. It was gorgeous upfront. Me and Aether reached out to the statue. Once we touched it, we felt a rush of power through us. I saw a part of Aether's chest piece glow and teal orbs surrounded around us both.
"Y/N! Look at your head piece thingy and your star piece on your corset!"
I walked towards the water. 'Huh, I look different than usual," I thought. Not going to lie, my outfit was beautifully made. From the head piece to the dress and heels—it was all so beautiful.
"You didn't realize your outfit?" Aether asked.
"No, not at all," I said, admiring my outfit.
I felt a rush of wind through the hair, it's the dragon again.
"Come on! Test out your new anemo powers!" Paimon said enthusiasticly
Aether tried out his first with the pyro slimes. Just seeing him hit them with a 'Wind Blade!' and his spinning tornado makes me feel bad for the pyro slimes. It was soon my turn. I wasn't confident but most likely anxious because I didn't actually know how to fight with fist and all of that, I only knew how to fight with words, that's all. I gulped and stepped up. I crossed my arms out and I somehow magically blown out a vortex. It quickly sucked up the pyro slimes.
"Woah! That was scary but cool!"
I was shocked of what I did. I quickly continue on and cast my ultimate.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! PAIMON IS FLYING AWAY!!!"
Paimon got a grip of Aether's braid and held on like her lie depended on it (which did). As soon as it stopped, Paimon was still holding onto Aether's braid.
"Is it done yet?.." Paimon asked.
"Yes, and let go of my braid please."
Paimon quickly let go of his braid and I stood there flabbergasted about what I just did.
"I didn't expect that to happen.."
"Well, you did suck the water with it," Aether replied.
"Oops," I laughed awkwardly, "Let's contine going to Mondstat, shall we?"
THIRD POV
'Huh,' Chiyo thought. 'That was odd.' Chiyo felt like something was wrong, like something was gone.
"Chiyo!"
"Someone on Earth went missing!"
Chiyo stretched and walked over to see what's the bickering about.
"We counted all 8.05 billion people but we're missing one! Sachiko said with a worried tone.
"Yes, and the thing is—Y/N is gone!" Keiko exclaimed.
"Wait, Y/N is missing?!" Chiyo yelled.
They all nodded.
"She just went—poof! It's like she was never there!"
"How could we just lost her? She can't just disappear out of thin air," Chiyo said.
"Maybe she used magic and disappear?" Ami said.
Kazue sighed, "How would they have magic? Humans don't have magic, Ami."
"I said maybe, jeez," Ami pouted.
"She must've fell into another world."
"Why'd you think that, Chiyo?" Keiko asked.
"Because she can't just magically disappear out of thin air. Of course, she must've ended up in Genshin Impact."
"There's no way, that situation has never happened in a millennium," Sachiko said.
"Well, there's only one way to find out. I'll have to go to Genshin Impact to find her," Chiyo said.
"Wouldn't that be dangerous? Ami asked.
"No, angels have done this for several eras. So, this is normal," Shinju said.
"But what if we lose track of you?" Keiko asked.
"You wouldn't, I know that for sure."
"Be careful," Shinju said.
"I will."
Chiyo opened a portal and plunged into it. 'Here goes nothing's Chiyo thought.

"What is it?" His voice wraps around Kaeya's neck, golden eyes shine eerily in the darkness. No love nor carnal desire took shape, merely a want to devour. Aether allows for little room between the two of them. Their lips barely a breath away, "am I not your type, captain Kaeya?" He spoke through his teeth, a curled lip barely suited how he pressed himself into Kaeya.
addtl. "Oh come off it, Kaeya. You don't need to be gentle. I can take it."
Close. So close.
Too close.
As Aether completely invaded his space, his words fanning against the Cavalry Captain’s lips, Kaeya’s gaze lidded as his expression shifted to something more unreadable. His hands remained at his side before he offered the outlander a gentle smile that held no other meaning behind it. “Jumping to assumptions can and will be your downfall, dear,” he stated, his voice hushed as though it was something secretive between them. “You’re a force to be reckoned with; one that can handle more than any mere person, or even vision-holder, can. However, laying my hands on you in a way that would normally hurt others is not something I intend upon.
“Hopefully, you understand.”

Ever since that fateful reunion with his twin, Aether had begun to take his time during his travels across Teyvat's vast lands. 'Once you've reached the end of your journey as I did, you'll see for yourself the true nature of this world' were the words parted to him, and the outlander took that to heart as guidance. Rushing around the world would not get him any closer to truly reuniting with his sister, nor would it reveal the GRAND TRUTH at any rate. So even after aiding each nation's solution to their prominent crisis, Aether spent quite some time exploring nature and taking up commissions for the Adventurer's Guild; helping the citizens' with their problems often led to new discoveries that shined some light onto Teyvat's MYSTERIES, thus making him connect even more with the world —
And yet all this journey has done is make the Traveler GROW ATTACHMENTS, something that he never truly allowed himself to form in previous worlds. It was all so contrary to what his sister expected from him, and yet. . .
Yet here he is, people-watching at the major fountain at the Court, the steady rushing of water behind him drowning out most of the crowd's buzzing. His thoughts floated around in the clouds — and perhaps if it wasn't for the warden's greetings, he wouldn't have even registered Wriothesley's presence.
"Ah, good morning! I'm just enjoying the scenery right now. I didn't think I'd ever run into you here of all places."
@aetherealwish ─── x.
usually, the duke did not run into someone such as the traveller when he left the fortress; given aether hardly remained in one location for too long, it was a thoroughly pleasant surprise that wriothesley bumped into him on a rare trip to the court of fontaine. ❛ it's been a while, traveller, ❜ he said, offering a light smile in greeting. ❛ here i thought you'd already be off to your next destination by now. ❜

PROLOGUE || The Outlanders
A/N: Hi everyone! As some of you know, I’ve been working on a project with Starlight Anon for a while now, and today I'm able to post the PROLOGUE of CONSTELLATION GENESIS :D A lot of time and effort has been put into this project and I hope you’ll enjoy the first part to the series! ♡ Comments and reblogs are appreciated!
✗ Previous Chapter || ↻ Next Chapter || ✦ MASTERLIST || ♪ PLAYLIST || ! PRELUDE/DISCLAIMER
『 Welcome us with your light 』
When existence takes form, light bursts forth.
Perception is possible with the existence of light, and life is breathed into existence with either belief or desire. Such radiance is accompanied by sublime darkness, the shadow which always follows. The universe is a blanket of void filled with twinkling light that held potential to blossom into life.
In the eyes of a child, the possibilities are endless.
SOLSTICE, the younger sister of Aether and Lumine, looks at the world with great curiosity. No matter where the twins took her, she would look around with eyes widely open of wonder.
Flowerfields seem to never run out. Each landscape has at least five different kinds of blossoms dancing by their feet.
Something was always missing.
Truly, it was a quaint and lovely world.
They chose a spot that gave them the smallest view of the old windmill, the one of two things that remained in tact amongst the infrastructures of the desolated town.
Her ecstatic smile seems to intrigue the beast as well, since it laid down.
It has an extra of legs to keep its elongated body supported. Its wings were brightly colored, from a golden rose tint to colors as black as the void.
Many differences between colors made them interesting as well, yet always recognizable as draconic. There are breeds which had been quick to rage, hence their worries.
The young woman stopped within arm's length and held her hand out, letting the creature approach on its own pace.
Aether moves her position in a way where the little girl would be facing the dragon.
Furthermore, they come in all sorts of types: vishaps, wyverns, wyrms, drakes, lindwyrms, amphipteres, basilisks, hydra, bahamuths, leviathans, and of course the typical dragons.
It can transform to properly accommodate those too young to leave and survive independently. Directly across is a gaping maw that serves as a gateway wherein Outlanders can enter or leave.
It is extremely rare for twins to be conceived by the stars of Cosmogenesis, yet never dangerous. Although as two souls that shared one star since birth, they will live with a connection that binds them for life.
Alas, the experience was always worth it.
After all, the birth of an Outlander happens only once every million years in Cosmogenesis.
Then, as color returned to their sights, they admired what seems to be the most beautiful supernova they have ever seen.
For this reason, news of any particular Outlander can be received from all parts of the universe. On the other hand, Cosmogenesis can send visions that are treated as summons for special events. Examples are the formation of a galaxy after a nebula dispersed, or the discovery of another unnamed star.
The most common for these summons, of course, is the birth of a new Outlander.
When such an update reached Aether and Lumine, their first thought was that it made no sense. It took a million years for an unnamed star to be born, and a hundred million more for it to die while birthing an Outlander—or two, in the rarest case of twins like them.
Their baby sibling kept floating down while wrapped in a bundle of silk manifested by the magic of Cosmogenesis.
There was no way that a star—let alone an entire galaxy—could be born from it anymore, yet a powerful resonance lingered as a thrumming of magic. The young man summons a relic in the shape of a crystal, and then seals it all away. He feels his twin sister assist him by lending her own power.
Lumine did the same as her brother, freeing one hand to take their little sister's other one.
It was an effort that seems to take a lot from her. When she leans forward, her hand meets a sea of darkness—an endless void of nothingness. She leans back and tries again, pushing harder and further through what seems like a veil of nonexistence.
Solstice steps in the direction she thinks is forward, yet had no way of confirming.
Right...?
When the magical sound starts to fade away, the void started to feel like an experience of being able to breathe underwater. Solstice falls into a loveless embrace of darkness. An invisible weight makes her sink into the depths and she lets it, forevermore trapped in limbo. There was no cause for alarm, as she knows that her twin siblings would wake her up soon. They will take her to another world as they always did, together.
This was just a bad dream.
The sun was already up as they were too, after being trained as early risers.
She groans, nose scrunching in displeasure; but she still blinks her eyes open as requested.
She ruffles her little sister's bedhair, making it even messier.
The pink leaves from the trees outside blow through the open windows. The curtains fluttered, and the windchimes tinkled like a fairy's chuckle.
While the situation remained unpleasant, Solstice needed to rest and she always took priority.
As she slept, she kept her primogem rattle close to her chest to absorb more of its mana.
When the twins had set out to find a home, they knew that travelling dimensions might have a stronger impact on the newborn Outlander. They had taken her out of Cosmogenesis earlier than most Outlanders would. With the combined powers of Aether and Lumine, they found a solution through Primo Stella. They had made that relic, her rattle, to seal the remains of the nebula. This way, she would have a reserve of cosmic energy to sustain herself while travelling. Then, on her 16th year, the power contained in the relic will permanently merge with her when she is finally ready. While sealing it was convenient, the two constantly worried about their sister's curious nature breaking it by accident.
Lumine watches Aether disappear into the forest with an eager pep in his step. She turns around and heads back into the house where they stayed, firmly holding Solstice's hand. The twins were used to doing commissions in other worlds as well, so both were willing to help the villagers—especially ones so kind and generous.
Even if she has yet to learn how to channel it, she is more than aware that it exists within her.
It kept tinkling even before the preceding echo could fade, like the persistent ticking of a clock.
As all light did, it took more shapes and then life was breathed into each one by her will.
He thought it could be proven useful amidst their travels. Lumine was intrigued by the idea; but she also brought up a particular downside, where this technology might stop working well when they jump to another world. They are not inclined to waste resources over something that will likely fail them before it could serve its worth.
It was, nonetheless, an interesting possibility.
Outside of the city, the entire civilization seems to run on water for everything. Within it, the towns did not disappoint.
Lumi, look there."
Solstice points with her rattle at the seagulls. As expected from a city of harbors, there was a great abundance of them. No doubt, they were here to pick up any leftover food from the tourists.
The worlds they have gone so far were usually centralized in nature, and the urban ones tend to be small towns rather than an evolved metropolis like this one. A perk which made the twins thank their lucky stars is that tourists are common here. This fact effectively refrained them from sticking out. It seems like the three could comfortably settle down here for a while until Solstice was ready for the next hop.
•

•
When first arriving here, the twins had been initially disappointed and a little depressed.
Once again, this world lacked the spark of "home" much like the previous ones. At times, Aether and Lumine would feel lost but kept moving forward if only for Solstice. The small Outlander did not seem to mind the delay though, not at all. Instead, she seemed to enjoy herself in this world. The twins also took this opportunity to spend time with their baby sibling, cheered up by her optimism. Perhaps, that is why they decided to settle down in this world for a little longer. From a smaller town, they traveled on another boat to the capital city.
Fortunately, it was their lively gondolier again!
They even learn his name this time: Pierre.
"Good morn, my friends~!" He sang.
Aether and Lumine grinned at him while Solstice squealed, glomping the laughing man's legs.
Once away from the docks and into the actual city, the three could see bigger stands as well as more sophisticated shops. Almost everything is either an expensive boutique, or a remote pawnshop. This part of the state have structures primarily made out of a white stone—resembling marble—giving the city a clean and luxurious look.
Behind the city and separated by the ocean from miles away, the mountains are more visible now due to proximity. Each is as high as the clouds, almost matching the castle towers and wealthy manors of the aristocrats. Veiled by heavy mist, the eldritch silhouettes loomed from afar. Despite its gloomy outlook, the formation of the mountains were almost protective as they encompass the borders of the entire city state.
Neither of the twins encountered the so-called immortal sages, but they did feel many watchful eyes on them—wary yet not hostile—the entire time they lingered. They actually got lost a few times, but trails of will-o'-the-wisps helped them get back on the right path.
Aether actually had fun with getting back to the city state that way, while Lumine opted to just use the transport they had used to arrive in the mountain isles. It will not do to neglect the sailors that helped them travel here.
Besides visiting these tourist spots, Solstice got to try out many delicacies as well.
•

He somehow had managed to get bitten by the seagulls when taking Solstice away from them.
The three had been sleeping in a cottage built in an oasis on the other side of a jungle. It was likely more a bunch of outposts than legitimate residences, but all of them look fortified as real functional shelters.
Unfortunately, the twins thought it was too close to the jungle as they ventured towards the jungle. Soon enough, they reached the oasis just on the other side of the jungle and renovated the cottage for shelter.
When the Outlanders had ventured further into the jungle, they had noticed its great food source and minerals; and if there was a lot of food, civilization follows where the river runs. For the next few days, the twins had searched for another village yet they only stumbled upon this oasis cottage.
Solstice is outside, playing with her primogem rattle and unleashing its jingle. The unique sound had always somehow calmed her, reminding her of the realm where she was born—Cosmogenesis, the twins told her of its name.
This time, it was way closer and filled him with wordless dread. He heard Lumine exclaim something in alarm and distress.
Solstice had broken the relic's seal.
Horrified, both twins urgently reached out for their little sister. The Elders warned them that the seal should never be lifted prematurely.
It was a a moment filled with innocence and warmth.
However, it was not entirely unpleasant...but more disorienting. This was new and unknown to her so she felt the need to be a little cautious despite her curiosity. Her siblings taught her to always practice that balanced mindset.
Solstice wondered if she was sleeping again.
•
Ten years pass and at last—
•
on the eve of Solstice's 16th birthday,
•
TEYVAT was fully created.
As midnight struck and the day arose, Solstice has reached full maturity as an Outlander. Her power lets out a final surge across the new land. This celestial phenomenon created three realms coexisting in harmony, welcoming yet untouchable.
When dawn settles over Teyvat,
•
Solstice finally opens her eyes
•
for the first time in ten years.

For the Sake of Science
Part 1 of Taking Ls in the Abyss
well it's been a long time coming, hasn't it...
ft. aether, dainsleif and a guest appearance from paimon
word count: 2.1k
You sigh to yourself. You’d been in Teyvat for a couple days at this point, and you’d already managed to catch the attention of people in three different continents from this place. After the whole fiasco on Ritou, you got taken back to Liyue where you have begun trying to get on your feet a little bit since Teyvat is now your home for the foreseeable future. As it just so happens, you were now part of the Adventurer’s Guild. Done offscreen for the sake of convenience, you joined it just a day ago. Now essentially being reverted to noob status in Teyvat, you thought it best to stick to the familiar and provide your limited services to the guild for a bit of mora. You miraculously managed to cheese the application process, somehow. Perhaps the harem protagonist’s curse could be used to your advantage.
Something that had been weighing on your mind as of recent was that weird interaction you had with Scaramouche. His highly out of character reaction to being grabbed felt it ran deeper than it let on. So in an attempt at trying to decipher what it could be, you tried to think about it from a logical standpoint. What was something that was different about your interaction with Scaramouche than everyone else? The rusty cogs of your brain began to turn… You grabbed him. You initiated "contact". Walking into the Shogun didn’t seem to do much to her, so maybe for some sort of weird thing to happen, you have to intentionally prompt it. If these weird circumstance mean anything of what you think they do, then you might wanna experiment on someone familiar and rather durable. And who better than the traveler Aether?
Being part of the Adventurer’s Guild actually made it quite easy to get the information on some people’s whereabouts. As it turned out, Aether was right here in Liyue.
"He just finished his daily commissions. I believe I heard him talking about getting something to eat at Third Round Knockout not far from here. Would you like someone to show you the way? You might not be familiar with Liyue just yet," Katheryne says politely in her usual pose.
"Nah, it’s alright. I know my way around pretty well." You decline her offer. If anything, that’s an understatement. You know Chihu Rock (almost) like the back of your hand. "Thanks again, though."
"Well then, ad astra abyssosque, outlander." She waves you off with a warm smile. You return the gesture and head on your way to go and find your test subject.
Walking down the street, you pass all sorts of real-turned NPCs. They don’t just shout the same lines over and over again and now it looks like they don’t all have the same default models. It’s kinda surreal if you’re being honest. The streets feel so much more alive. Taking you right out of your musings is the "CHEAP AND TASTY CHOP SUEEEEY" line. Turns out some of them are still there.
It doesn’t take long to spot Aether. He was sitting in the usual spot on the edge of the open-air patio. Paimon was sat across from him on a stack of books, chowing down on a comically large bowl of Black-back Perch Stew. It’s kinda weird to actually see the two of them eating non-low-res food. The small floating toddler spots you before Aether seems to, as she intensely waves you down, face still full of food. His confused face turns to a pleasant smile once he sees you.
"Oh, I didn’t expect you to be here, (Y/N)," he remarks. "Come sit." He pulls out a stool between him and Paimon. It’s still kinda weird hearing him speak rather than Paimon being the mouthpiece.
You happily take him up on the offer, also making an order of Jade Parcels just before you sit down. It's a lovely day to sit outside. The sun is shining bright, it's warm and you can smell the faint scent of the ocean on the breeze. But now that you’re here, you’ve gotta figure out some way to test your theories also without making it weird as possible. You’ve got an idea in mind, but you can’t execute it just yet. The time isn’t right.
"How did you get to Liyue?" He asks, tilting his head. His fluffy hair flops on the side of his face. "I didn’t think you’d end up here so quickly."
"Ah yeah, um— I’ve also managed to get to Inazuma in the past couple of days."
"HUMFPH? HERW?" Paimon squeaks, mouth still full of food. Both she and Aether look surprised.
"The night I got first arrived, I somehow managed to sleepwalk out of Mondstadt, all the way to the beach and onto Beidou’s ship. By the time they found me, they were already leaving for Inazuma, so I just had to go there with them. Then I ended up in Ritou for a day until they came back to Liyue harbour, and now I’ve just been trying to make some mora with commissions." You prop your head up with your arms on the table.
"Oh wow, that’s… quite the adventure," He remarks. "And only in the span of a few days as well?"
"Yup. We outworlders get up to some wacky stuff, don’t we." You silently recount all the crap you’ve put your characters through back when you just played the game, not actually part of it. You really hope you’re not gonna get stuck just falling while caught between a wall and an inconveniently placed bush…
Your Jade Parcels are brought right to your table far quicker than you expected them to take. The service is really quick here. The dish almost seems to sparkle with how well-made it looks. Maybe good food still sparkles like it does in game. Now that your food is here, it may as well be as good a time as ever to put your idea into action. So you "accidentally" knock your chopsticks to the ground. They land on the floor in a clutter right next to Aether’s ankles. The moment he reaches down to pick them up off the floor, you duck down as well and purposely brush your hand over his, with the intention of trying to get some sort of reaction.
AND THERE IT IS. Aether appears to flinch with a strange noise.
"Are you alright?" You ask, silently gauging his reaction while retracting your hand.
"Y-yeah, sorry… Here you go," He mutters out, handing you the utensils. Sitting back upright, you notice a faint blush on Aether’s face. He looks down at his empty dish awkwardly, looking somewhat tense. Looks like it worked. But to be sure…
"You sure? You look a bit like you’re burning up." You place the back of your hand onto his forehead. The seemingly innocent action is laden with ulterior motives. And there it is. He tenses up and stammers awkwardly at the contact.
"Hey, Aether, what’s up with your face? It’s gone kinda red," Paimon comments. She’s finally not chewing for once.
"I think I just need some water… Excuse me." Aether briefly pardons himself from the table and gets up to go and find a waiter, leaving you alone with Paimon.
She looks incredibly confused, trying to piece things together in her head. Nothing seems to click. Instead, she just gives up and moves on to eyeing your Jade Parcels really intently. In true Paimon fashion, she asks: "You gonna eat that?"
"Yes, of course I am." You frown, reaching over to take the chopsticks from the empty seat since yours had been on the floor. T’was a small price to pay for knowledge. However, for an experiment to be statistically significant, you require more subjects.
Right as you stick one of the dumplings in your mouth (i think they’re dumplings, i’m not 100% sure oof), you spot a familiar blond head across the Chihu Rock plaza. It wasn't Aether, because he was still off looking for water. It was Dainsleif. Huh? And he was looking right at you. What. Did he see your experiments on unsuspecting Aether? Either way, it seems like the universe has blessed you with a potential control group.
Paimon notices your staring and looks over in the same direction, quickly spotting Dainsleif. Just like with you, she begins to aggressively wave at him while calling out his name. He knows full well that he’s been spotted, as he seems visibly annoyed, but Paimon doesn’t seem to notice or care. He reluctantly makes his way over anyway, stopping just across from your table.
"Hey Dain!" She chirrups, moving to take another massive bite out of her dish.
"Hello," He replies in his usual monotone voice. It seems like he didn’t really want to be spotted unless Aether was there. "Who is this?" He gestures to you, which confuses you. Normally you would have expected him to pay zero attention to you, but then again, you’re suddenly a harem protagonist. Logic doesn’t really apply much.
Dainsleif seems unsurprised to hear this fact. Then again, the man’s a little bit of a brick, so he’s not surprised by much. "So you’re (Y/N)?"
You blink. "What, have you heard of me?"
"Be warned. Some… dark creatures... are curious about you."
AYO?
Dainsleif’s speech is as vaguely and cryptically as ever. He didn’t even answer your question. He’s about to turn to leave, but you grab his wrist just before he can go.
"You mean the Abyss?" You ask, frowning with concern. What the everliving fuck would they want with you?
"You already know about the Abyss?" Dainsleif frowns, confused. He wasn’t expecting that, it seems. "Also, would you please let go of my wrist?" He looks down at your hand.
Now you finally realize what you did. Whoops—
Dainsleif clears his throat and appears to avert his gaze all of a sudden. His reaction changed right when you realized what you were doing. It seems like not even Dainsleif is immune. You quit stalling and finally drop his hand. He retracts it with an awkward cough. "As I was saying… Yes, it is the Abyss, since you already seem aware of them. Be careful. Trust your instinct and stay away from the dark. Do not trust any strangers for the next while."
"I- um… okay." You really don’t know how to process Dainsleif’s enigmatic warning. "I’ll try not to do anything dumb."
"I should be on my way now…" Dainsleif turns tail with his dramatic cloak and walks off as quickly as he appeared. Once he’s far down the road, you look back at Paimon who looks equally concerned and confused again.
"The Abyss is after you? You’ve only been here a couple days!" She rambles. "Did news about a new outlander really travel that quickly?"
"Hold on, what?" A different voice suddenly pipes up from behind you. You turn around and find Aether has finally returned. "You’ve already gotten yourself mixed up with the Abyss?"
"It sounds like it…" You’ve got genuinely no clue how they would have found out.
"Yeah! Dain just came through and dropped a super weird warning! You just missed him, actually," Paimon explains.
Aether seems to think for a minute, ultimately deciding on something. "Do you wanna join us for a few days then? At least until you know it’s safe, I suppose." He offers amicably. HERE IT GOES AGAIN. AETHER’S CONFIRMED PART OF THE HAREM NOW. But this is an offer you’re actually going to take up. You’d be much safer around Paimon and Aether than just off on your own.
"Aha, if you don’t mind..." You clam up a little. "That’d be really helpful. Thank you so much."
So now you’re joining Aether and Paimon for the next few days. Hopefully this all blows over as quickly as possible, because then who knows how the others would react. Given your current state of affairs, there might be a lot of defensive infighting over you.
Well, your conclusion of the the day would be that you do indeed have the ability to make someone flustered upon contact. How cursed… Is that why the Abyss is after you? Because you have these wack-ass harem powers? If you do end up falling into the clutches of the Abyss, it would spell definite trouble. As far as you’re aware, you can’t exactly fight. If you getting abyss-napped actually comes to pass, then you’d have to rely on your new god-tier charisma you’ve acquired. Who knows if that would even work on the Abyss…
DOES ALL THAT CRAP ACTUALLY HAPPEN? TUNE IN NEXT TIME.
i'll try to post within the next 5 months LMAO

The Celestial Archon
Genshin Impact x f!Reader
Prologue: Dreamy Origins
Eight archons made it out of the war. One of which, had claimed no physical territory but insisted she would live among the stars and in the dreams of Teyvat’s people. Her eyes shined as she congratulated each archon on their new purpose. Each and every god thanked her for her kindness and hard work as well as reassured her she had a safe haven in their decided territories.
Morax and Barbatos sat with the starry eyed goddess, indulging in wine. Barbatos snickered at the spell she had put on the geo archon. His eyes never left her as she rambled on. Rex Lapis was infatuated, from the way her feet never seemed to touch the ground to the flutter of her eyelashes as she grew tipsy, he was fascinated. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one enchanted by her. The onlooking adepti also found themselves pulled in by her, most of all Xiao and Ganyu.
“Ah, Lady of the Stars,” Barbatos started, smirking “I wonder if you’ll settle down now. You’ve been wandering since before the war and even now you haven’t claimed any land. Do tell, has a certain archon caught your eye? Do you plan on staying in their land?”
The woman peered at the anemo archon curiously, “I’m sorry but I don’t quite understand what you mean?”
“He’s attempting to ask if you plan on taking a lover, dear.” The lord of geo sipped on his drink, averting the eyes of the woman before him.
The eighth archons laugh was light, “It is nothing like that. I simply haven’t found my home yet. I’m not sure if I ever will, sorry to disappoint you, dear anemo god. My heart just longs for something I can’t seem to find.”
She spoke directly to the two gods, but her eyes seemed to be elsewhere. Barbatos felt his chest tighten at the sight of her melancholy eyes. He wondered if the reason the otherworldly archon always smiled was to cover up that feeling. Morax noticed her expression as well, a heavy feeling of sadness and disappointment settled over him but he wasn’t sure why.
The wind archon and geo archon continued to talk, trying to fill the sudden silence. Xiao approached the three, quietly. Sensing his presence, the space case archon looked up at him. The yaksha simply held his hand out to her, without hesitation the formerly bubbly goddess took his hand.
Xiao led her a good distance from the two male gods. The silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable at all. He’d always appreciated that about her, how she could sit with him and not intrude on his peace.
“Do you remember before the war when you hated those two? You were always mocking them, mocking all the gods.” Xiao broke the silence, sitting on the edge of a cliff.
“Yeah,” She sank down next to him, “I really hated the gods. I thought they were all selfish and cruel. Sometimes I still feel that way I think.”
Xiao sighed, “It must be hard to hold all that self hatred and bitterness inside you. I thought you had moved passed it, although it seems you’ve just been feigning it this entire time.”
The goddess turned to him, her eyes darkening and narrowing at him, “Adeptus Xiao, know your place.”
“I do, and it’s not under you. I serve Morax, not you. It doesn’t make a difference if you hate me for it, I merely wish you to see yourself how I see you and how the other archons see you.”
The young woman was shocked by his sharp tongue, she turned to avoid his piercing gaze. Her heart felt heavy, knowing he spoke earnestly. She jumped as his hand grazed hers, taken back by the sudden affection. Relaxing, she allowed his fingers to intertwine with hers. It was quiet, all the two could hear was their own quick heartbeats.
From afar, the other Adepti observed. Ganyu felt a bit upset that she wasn’t comforting the grief stricken goddess as well. They stood, gossiping among themselves as the two stood and made their way back to the Archons. Xiao removed his hand from the last archon’s, a light blush dusted his cheeks under the moonlight.
Morax and Barbatos were still in deep discussion when they arrived. The archons immediately stopped seeing the two approaching them, Barbatos examined the geo archon’s scowl. Jealousy radiated off of him so heavily it was almost scary. The anemo archon stood abruptly and flung himself into the arms of the celestial archon, pretending to be far drunker than he was.
Both of the lovesick men had to refrain from yanking the anemo archon off of her and tearing him to shreds. The eighth archon was completely oblivious to the tension, consoling the drunken Barbatos. Cloud Retainer chuckled at the sight before her.
“We should be careful of that one, she might start another war,” Madam Ping huffed.
As the sun began to rise, the mysterious goddess excused herself. She insisted she had to go, promising she’d return for another drink soon. Liyue and Mondstat’s war heroes bid her goodbye. Only later would they wish they would’ve stopped her. After centuries without her mischievous smile and bright eyes, those who saw her last goodbye came to regret not pulling her back to them. Without leaving a single trace of herself, the Celestial Archon vanished.

Mona was abnormally anxious, clearly unsettled. The stars were shifting and in a massive way. Something big was coming and it was giving her a headache. Anxiety and excitement coursed through her veins. Very few people knew of the existence of the eighth archon, as an astrologist she was incredibly invested in the history of the Archon of the Sky.
“When a storm of stars comes to pass,” Mona whispered to herself, “The Celestial Archon will make their return.”
She stood and quickly went to Jean. A meeting needed to be called between Mondstat and Liyue. Both archons were well acquainted with the spacial god, and only those in Liyue and Mondstat could be trusted.
At the mention of the celestial archon, both parties came to meet with grace and speed. It was tense as Mona escorted the beloved traveler to the wide room that sat between the two countries. The astrologist bowed in respect to the two Archons, seated above the others. She recounted her findings and sat back as those around her began to discuss the matter at hand. She began to space out, mind fuzzy and filled only with thoughts of the missing archon.
“We’ll protect the Celestial Archon!” Aether’s exclamation brought Mona back to reality.
“A storm of stars,” Zhongli mumbled, hands flying to his head as he tried to comprehend the information thrown at him.
“I wonder what it could mean,” Venti’s eyes twinkled.
The room was buzzing at the mere concept of an eighth archon. Lisa had taken notes and began to share them with Jean and the wise Ningguang. Theories and plans began to fly, preparations needed to be made. Celestial powers had been long forgotten but were about to make their return.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Aether and Paimon had been busy. Preparing for the Celestial Archon was even more tedious than festival preparations and activities. Finally, after a month of laying groundwork, the outlander and his companion were free to rest. The blonde giggled at the chubby flying toddler stuffing her face. She was exhausted and cranky after making the trek from Liyue to Mondstat. Her chubby hands angrily snatched another snack from the boy, she scowled at him as she chewed.
Aether sighed and glanced up at the midnight sky. The cliffs no longer blocked the moonlight and clear stars. Paimon glanced up, letting out excited oohs and ahs. A gasp escaped the teenager’s mouth as a star shot across the sky, he clasped his hands together and made a wish. He closed his eyes briefly.
He willed it with all his heart to see Lumine once again. Paimon suddenly shrieked and Aether immediately opened his eyes and pulled his sword out. The fairy like girl was pointing at the sky. Aether’s eyes widened in shock and wonder as the stars fell in curtains. What started off as a shooting star, became a meteor shower.
“Wait a minute,” Paimon started but was cut off by a bright light.
Aether gulped, “That star is getting really close isn’t it?”
Paimon screamed as Aether grabbed her and shot himself backwards to avoid getting hit by a fragment of space. The light grew brighter than he could handle and his hand flew to his eyes. Roaring filled his ears as the path before him was illuminated and the crash that occurred must’ve been heard for miles.
The traveler opened his eyes as the brightness finally dimmed. He nearly shot back again seeing a strange young woman sprawled out on the ground. Paimon gasped as the beautiful woman’s eyes fluttered open.
“Is this the Celestial Archon?” Aether approached her cautiously, mumbling.
“Teyvat.” She whispered, ignoring his question.
With that one word, she fell unconscious. She slipped into a dreamy sleep.

Seraph!Aether
That wish for a more angelic Aether
Featuring: Aether
Warnings: gender neutral reader (you/your pronouns), body horror (multiple eyes), mentions of blood, mentions of violence, burn mentions (no graphic details), general feelings of fear, slight religious inspiration
A/N: so this came about partly because I love Aether and partly because my friend has exposed me to too much Biblically Accurate Angel content. The draft initially had more romantic/platonic hints, but then I decided, no, I’m going to make Y/N feel nothing but fear. Have fun with this concept I’ve had on the brain for weeks now (and let’s ignore the fact that it’s way longer than I initially anticipated, but hey, extra content).
Let me grant your wish…
Aether
An angelic being beyond your comprehension.
Aether, with his long hair, braid flowing behind him in the wind like spun gold.
Aether, with his kind eyes, glowing like the rising sun.
Aether, with his six gossamer wings, made of stardust and sunlight, glittering eburnean. The golden bases of each wing shine a bright, pure white, but the shape of the light… it’s almost like the light can see you…
Aether, whose Outlander attire had been long deserted, replaced with flowing white robes that went off the shoulder and barely brushed against his knees.
Aether, whose now partially exposed upper body revealed what you had feared you saw at the base of his six wings: eyes. One large eye right in the middle of his chest, tilted sideways. Two eyes, one on each wrist. Two more, but on his shoulders. Another pair, just under each knee. Their irises were all blinding white lights. And they were all looking at you.
Aether, who once bore a lovely smile when he saw others. When he saw you. Aether, whose smile has disappeared from his visage, now seemingly unfazed.
Aether, who now had a golden arc hovering above his head. An arc with various needle-like points, as if the rising sun itself had become his royal crown: his halo.
Aether, who was now barefoot. But that didn’t pose a problem to him, seeing as he was lifted in the air, watching you from above.
Aether, whose voice was once calm and melodious, like the sweetest honey. Whose voice now echoed loudly, beating the winds howls, reaching the farthest corners of the open fields.
You were afraid. You didn’t know what to do. What could you do? You were faced with this being, covered in eyes and a golden aura. And then he spoke, and he said:
“Y/N… Be not afraid,”
Aether, who had once been a soft type of beautiful. Like springtime, when birds chirped and little flower buds were just beginning to unfold and the sun filtered through flowering trees onto the green grass. A beautiful, but strong being. Aether, whose beauty was like a diamond carved by the golden dawn.
Aether, who was now more and more like the sun. Aether, who radiated a heat you were unfamiliar with, but seemed gentle enough… at least to your touch. Aether, who glowed white and gold, as the sun always did every day. Aether, whose light was blinding, as the sun’s light always was on a cloudless day. Aether, the Sun Child. And yet he was still beautiful. You had never understood the term hauntingly beautiful until now.
Aether, who used to be so kind and so forgiving of others. Whose anger never came easy to him. Aether, who would never hold grudges against others, even if the Adventurer’s Guild ran him ragged. He was always happy to help. Always willing to sacrifice for others.
Aether, who no longer tolerated those who wanted to take advantage of his power and kindness. Aether, who became truly horrifying in the heat of wrath.
Aether, whose wings of gossamer light in wild flames, dancing and waving in the wind. No longer were they the suave and regal eburnean, but a raging cinnabar. Wings like those of a phoenix, which had become so large in span that when not fully extended, the flaming tips brushed against the ground.
Aether, whose eyes had lost the white light in their irises. A light that has been replaced with molten lava. Aether, whose extra eyes spin around, frantically looking for blood to satiate their burning bloodlust.
Aether, whose bare feet leave burn marks where he’s walked. Whose skin radiates that same heat, willing to hurt, and hurt badly.
Aether, whose robes are no longer white, but becoming more and more gray as they collect the ash and soot that surrounds his form.
Aether, whose body no longer looked human. A body that became white-hot, and barely recognizable. His body maintained some evidence of his golden form, but otherwise looked like a sentient star. But what is the Sun if not a fellow Star?
Aether, whose dull blade became a golden sword he intended to use to slay monsters and people he deemed evil. All living beings will learn to fear the golden sword, you think.
Aether, whose halo became an arc of flames. Now, instead of a crown of the sun’s rays, he donned a crown of ancient fire, a fire that must have rained down from the heavens.
Aether, whose voice becomes a series of shrieks. Those shrieks resonate everywhere, from the dirt paths and cobblestone to the clouds in the sky. The Sun Child’s war cry reaches all ears, especially yours.
Aether, who becomes irrational, brutal, and unforgiving in his flaming rampage. Lay a finger on anyone he cares about in a way he deems wrong, and you won’t walk away without bloodied wounds and burns on your body. He is a living solar flare. And even so, you don’t hate him. You fear him, yes, but you cannot bring yourself to hate him, or fight back.
And then he sees you. You’re shaking in terror at the flaming seraph, and suddenly it stops. All the fire is simply gone, and Aether falls from the sky, crumpled on the ground in front of you. The aftermath of the seraph’s rage. And he raises his head, kneeling in the pile of cinders and ash. His two golden eyes are back, and his hair is still long, golden, and braided, though it’s covered by the ashes and soot. His eyes and hair are the only traces of gold that remain, and even they have faded.
Aether, whose hair and eyes have become washed out, pale, and dull. No longer do they shine brightly. Instead, they are void of the warmth they once held. Cold, grayed yellow is what remains.
Aether, whose wings are no longer glittering, but a dull ash gray. He can still float if he so desires, but his wings are skeletal; useless in this state. All that remains are the burnt, rusted bases and the ghosts of what once were six wings of ivory gossamer.
Aether, whose robes became tattered and frayed, but still stubbornly clung to his body. The robes were caked in the ashes, yet still held a hauntingly powerful aura.
Aether, whose sword returned to its form as the dull blade, no sign of gold or flames to be found.
Aether, whose halo had broken, its pieces floating around his head in no particular order, like weightless debris.
Aether, whose extra eyes had gone dormant, closed and invisible to the average person.
Aether, whose warmth was gone, leaving him shivering in the screeching wind.
Aether, whose voice had gone from a daylight melody, to a sonorous boom, to a raging war cry. All that was no more. What remained were a series of dry, hollow croaks that barely reached your ears. Aether, whose voice had been taken by the flames of wrath just as the rest of his golden being had been.
Aether, whose body had blackened, burnt patches and a strong smell of smoke that permeated his being. His body was quite skeletal, and his bones protruded from his being. His spine jutted out, and his ribs could easily be seen, though his grayed robes attempted to hide the seraph’s bony body. He was nothing but a ghost of the golden form that greeted you out in that field. No longer a threat. He was weak and helpless. The Sun Child’s solar flare had burned him out too quickly. Now the Sun Child was reduced to a pale flicker, fighting for life.
Yet you still feared him, no matter what form his seraphic self took. Even if he returned to his more human looking form, you knew you would never look at him the same way.
He knew, and so he left like dust in the wind. All that was left were the ashes he had knelt upon. So, with nothing more to do, you cleaned up the ashes and made your way to find a place to stay for the night.
Aether, the seraph whose blackened and weakened body would soon return to its golden glory bit by bit.
You waited for the day of the Golden Seraph’s return, knowing that it would lead to fear and chaos once more. You would learn to fear him not, but for now, you simply arose to the golden dawn, off to forage for mint. And you repeated to yourself, always:
“Y/N, be not afraid”
~wish granted~

⊱ ──────ஓ๑♡๑ஓ ────── ⊰
After finishing the fourth commission of the day, Aether and Paimon made their way back to Mondstadt to collect their rewards from the Guild and visit a friend for another reward, a tasty one the two hoped. The journey to the entrance of the windy city was short, for the last commission happened to be just around the corner, somewhat a few yards away from the bridge. Just a few hilichurls and mitachurls in a camp that needed to be clear off. It is no surprise the young man managed to get hurt, not severely as he thought but some of the wounds did made him wince with every step he took.
"Paimon hopes [Y/N] could make us some delicious snacks! their cooking skill is amazing!" Paimo said excitedly, earning a look from the blonde outlander. "What? It's true! Your cooking skills comes in second place!" Paimon added and it earned her a light chuckle from Aether as he shook his head.
"[Y/N] does make a perfect Sticky Honey Roast." The traveler commented as the pair walked the brigde, trying to be as mindful as they could for Timmie's birds while they passed by him. Paimon nodded with a hungry look on her eyes, mouth already wettering at the thought of the dish. With her small hands pounding the air in an impatient manner and a frown on her face, she turned to Aether with a pout added in.
"C'mon! Let's hurry up! Paimon can't wait no more!" Paimon exclaimed, already floating ahead towards the gate where the two Knights of Favonius stood guarded on each side. Aether let out another laugh before he took off from his walking pace, an apology being thrown over to Timmie for disrupting the birds once again. He raced behind the floating figure he jokingly called Emergency Food, his own heart beating with anticipation to see his good friend [Y/N], ignoring the amount of sharp pains his body received with each hurried step. Aether waved at the guards before stepping within the city walls. Paimon glared lightly as the traveler as she watched him reached the Guild's stand, a tiny foot tapping the air rapidly, her hands on each side of her waist. "C'mon, c'mon! Paimon's stomachs is getting grumpy!" Paimon told him, hands thrown up in the air to further push her point. Aether rose a brow at the mention of stomachs, still wondering about their conversation of what was weirder from a long ago.
"Okay, okay... Why don't you go wait by [Y/N]'s place and I'll meet you there?" Aether proposed as he turned to Katherine and gave her a quick smile and greetings. He didn't have to wait for Paimon's response as she already disappear from his sight. Sighing tiredly, he looked at the young man, his smile still in place. "Katherine, hello. I'm finished with today's commissions." He said, patiently waiting for the rewards Katherine was about to bring out.
Paimon flew a bit around Mondstadt, grinning widely as [Y/N]'s house came into view. She quickly headed to the front of the house. Paimon looked around for the [color]-haired individual, spotting them nowhere outside their home. Appearing in front of the door, Paimon knocked on the surface as loud as she could, stopping when it flew opened. The grin widen at the sight of her and the traveler's friend.
"[Y/N]! Hi! Paimon's happy you're home!" The floating being said with a bright smile. [Y/N] chuckled at Paimon. Their eyes scanned around the area, standing aside to let her in.
"Hey there, Paimon? Where's Aether?" They asked, closing the door behind themselves. Paimon explained Aether's whereabouts, following [Y/N] to the kitchen where a few plates of snacks where already prepared. "Ah, then it shouldn't take him long to get here." They said with a shrug. Paimon nodded, her eyes shined with glee at the delicious snacks she could smell from her place.
"Yup! And it seem you already got us ready with the goodies! It's like you knew we were coming! What are you? What's that power?" Paimon rambled as she grabbed a Mondstadt Hash Brown from one of the plates. [Y/N] shook his head with a giggle escaping past his lips.
"I just had a hunch you two would stop by. Guess I was right." They replied, blinking when another knock sounded from the door. He walked out of the kitchen, letting Paimon enjoyed the snacks. When he reached the door, another knock came through. Already with the person in mind, [Y/N] opened the door, their smile growing on their face when they saw Aether... slouching slightly with a pained look on his face. Their eyes finally took in Aether's state, eyes widening a bit. "Aether! Oh my Archons, what happened?" They asked as he helped them in. Aether waved his hand dismissively, chuckling a bit.
"Tis nothing but a scratch." The blonde man said with a shrug. Paimon poker her head out of the kitchen, wondering what was all the commotion about. She raised a brow at Aether's arm swing over the other's shoulders, looking like he was in pained. She rose a brow, her head tilted to the side.
"Scratch? It's more than a scratch! You got cuts here and there. And it made look like a small gash, but it is still more than a scratch." [Y/N] frowned, sitting Aether down on the couch. "Stay here, I'll go some stuffs to bandage you up." With no reply, [Y/N] headed to their bathroom, a small yet concern frown on their face. Once [Y/N] was out of sight and earshot, Paimon flew over to Aether.
"What are you doing? You're not that hurt!" Paimon said, her hands on her waist. Aether hushed at her, looking behind him to make sure [Y/N] didn't hear them speak.
"I know, I know... but... I like it when [Y/N] take cares of me... Their touches are so soft and gentle." Aether whispered, smiling longigly at the thought of [Y/N]'s hands brushing up against his skin. Paimon gave him a look before putting the pieces together.
"Oooh~! Someone's got a crush!" Paimon exclaimed as she floated around Aether who waved his hands to quiet down but it was a bit late, [Y/N]'s footsteps could already be heard.
"Who has a crush on who?" They asked, their head cocking to one side as they rounded the couch to seat in front of the outlander on the coffee table. Aether's cheeks were tained in a rosy color, clearing his throat as he and Paimon exchanged looks.
Paimon shrugged, shaking her head as she tried to come up with an excuse. Aether only scratched the back of his head, looking around to stop their friend from looking at the small blush on his cheeks.
"Um... J-Jean! Jean has a... uh, cru-crush on Master Diluc!" Paimon stuttered out and glanced back at the traveler. "R-right, Aether!?" Aether nodded eagerly, wanting to skip the topic already. [Y/N] rose a brow at the false gossip, nodding slowly as they opened the wooded med kit sat in their lap.
"Jean crushing on Master Diluc? Really?" [Y/N] muttered in disbelief, not believing the two but let it slide. Paimon and Aether only nodded, watching [Y/N] take out a roll of bandage. Paimon let the two alone, feeling more hungry than ever. As the two sat in silence, Aether's eyes studied the [hair color] Anemo user. He studied how gentle they tried to be with his wounds, mindful to not press to hard to cause him the wince in pain. It brought a small smile to the traveler's face, the blush he thought was long gone reappeared faintly across his cheeks. He let out a whine when alcohol was rub the last wound, alerting [Y/N]. "Oh, I'm sorry! You're okay?" They asked softly, [eye color] eyes locking with golden-yellow eyes. It took the blonde a minute to respond, having to be lost in their eyes. "Aether?"
Snapping out of it, said man nodder quickly, looking away to hide his ever-growing blush.
"Yeah, yeah... I'm okay. It j-just took me off guard." He said, giving [Y/N] an awkward smile. The individual chuckled as they finished up wrapping the wound, bringing Aether's arm out and closer to their personal space. Their soft lips pressed a light kiss on top of the bandaged area. Such gesture made Aether's heart run a mile over and over. He was sure the blush gotten redder and up to the point of his ears. "W-what?" He stuttered, unsure how to react. Part of him was taken aback by the gesture, the other part panicked as many thoughts ran through his head about the meaning of the gesture.
"My mom used to kiss all my cuts away whenever I get hurt. Said a kiss heals any wounds." [Y/N] explained, smiling fondly at the memories that crossed their mind. Without thinking, Aether pointed at his lips.
"You forgot this wound then." He stated out without a second thought. The words caught [Y/N] off guard, their own cheeks dusted with the same rosy blush that matched almost woth Aether. Their eyes widen in surprise. Aether even caught on into his own words, immediately stuttering out an apology as he tried to come up with a different excuse, but before any words were let out, he felt a pair of smooth hands cup his cheeks and pulled him closer, his lips meeting up with [Y/N]'s in a quick yet sweet kiss. Pulling away, both of them had their blush reddened like a Jueyun Chili all over their face.
"Well, t-there you go... All healed up." [Y/N] started off, eyes casted down at their hands. Aether, now filled up with a bit more confidence, took [Y/N]'s hands in his own.
"I don't think they're healed. They still hurt." To 'prove' his point, he guided the other's hand and lightly tap their fingertips against his lip, acting out a wince of pain. [Y/N] let out a genuine laugh, shaking their head at the outlander's tactics. Aether joined in, their bands still in his, intertwined together.
Paimon sighed as she finished off the last plate, blinking when she heard laughter coming from the living room. Peaking her head out, she grinned widely at the view of Aether and [Y/N] smiling lovingly at each other, chuckling here and there about the traveler's little tactic to get another kiss on the lips from the Anemo wielder. It was about time for the two of them to get together, afterall.
...
..
.
"So, was it you who has a crush on me?"
"... Yeah..."
"Heh, such a cutie."
